We found Don Rodrigo to be a large, old, but lovely hotel established in a colonial compound in the heart of old-town Antigua. Don Rodrigo’s gardens and grounds are beautiful and its staff gracious and accommodating. A few points: I selected Don Rodrigo because of its prime location and the 60%+ room discount for our stay. The list price posted at reception for that room is $240, which would not be worth it for us. [We paid $105 before taxes, etc.] All four of us stayed in room 305, which we’d recommend given the balcony seating/tables right outside the room that overlook the courtyard. Don Rodrigo’s website promises Wifi, If that's important to you, know that Wifi reception is only available in the courtyard, not rooms. Directly across the street is a brewery, Antigua Cerveza, which will allow you to buy pints to drink in the (less crowded) hotel courtyard/your room as long as you return the glass. The restaurant, which has decent, if not unremarkable food, is overpriced. However, its location in town makes this hotel one to consider if you can get a discount.…
The facilities of the hotel and restaurant were great, Very nice place to spend your time. Prices were high and the quality of the dishes were not as great. Food was not bad but not great. Service was good but difficult to communicate in English
My family has stayed at this beautiful hotel multiplie times, the most recent visit was almost 3 weeks while setting up a home they just had built. Everyone LOVES staying at this hotel! The staff is so welcoming. They remember you every time you go back, are so very friendly, helpful, and do what they can to make your visit as pleasant as possible. The rooms are very well kept. Rogelia (she is the manager)is amazing and will go above and beyond. It's a lovely hotel and the grounds are immaculate, lush, and a beautiful sight every morning when you come out of your room. The fountains are relaxing, and they have the cutest turtles in the garden. There are stunning views from the upstairs terrace of all 3 volcanos. The food is delicious, service is fantastic and everyone treats you like family. They happily made oatmeal for my mom every night to have in her room in case she had a hypoglycemic episode. 2 meals a day are included with each night at the hotel, which is a nice bonus. They will even set up a table outside your room if you're looking for something a little more intimate. They even have Marimba players every day in the dining room for a taste of local music! The location is perfect for wandering around Antigua, a vibrant colonial city, during the day. It's a beautiful city! They have their own taxi drivers that they will call for you if you want to go on an adventure. You can have the taxi driver for the day if you like, which is great if you want to stop in different areas throughout the day and not have to worry about getting a taxi back. Even though they now have their own home in Antigua, my mom says she plans on staying at the hotel a few days each visit because she would miss all the people and enjoys the pampering! Stay at this hotel! You won't regret it, as a matter of fact, you won't want to leave!…
Volcano view, beautiful interior. But terrible cousine. It looked like seabass had spent 10 years in the freezer. And bread was baked last week. But prices are high and tip is included in advance. Wasted money.
We loved our stay at the Posada. The pool , restaurant and most importantly room were all really good. The hotel is right at the end of a road in Panajachal and from it's back gates you get access lake atitlan. Staff were all very friendly and the place was super clean. The pool was hardly used and has a really cool slide which we used ! Bar service for drinks was there. One thing to note is that food and drink is quite expensive there, as it's a really touristy area, but the quality is good. Breakfast there is lots of choice of made to order foods with fruit or juices. Waitress staff English wasnt great, but we made it work ! They were very patient and attentive. The rooms were a good size with 2 x double beds in and a lake view which was stunning. We were going to do our laundry there but it was a little expensive (as per above) Cant fault this hotel for anything really, would highly recommend if in the area. We stayed 8th to 10th of March…
We arrived early morning in Antigua and made a first walk through this truly beautiful city. We came across the hotel and walked in to see the courtyard. A charming lady from the reception welcomed us and offered to show us the hotel. We stayed for breakfast booked a room and returned for a real stay two days later. A fine room was ready for us and we finished a three month journey at this outstanding place. Regretfully I do not remember the name of the charming lady but have add a photo. Travel at its best, and a perfect place to end magic journey.
We didn't stay at the hotel property, but stopped here for lunch while in Antigua for the day. Tortillas were made by hand in front of us, and we had perhaps the best meal of our entire two week trip here!
Amazingly beautiful hotel-- 400+ years old, but nice rooms. Check out the picture of the keys-- 400 year old locks too. Food was very good (fresh tortillas handmade every morning on-site). Bar is really strange. Only potential downside-- you'd better love a HARD mattress.
Our NGO recently carried out a project in Guatemala. Our large group of volunteers stayed at this hotel . I can’t speak for all of them , but my stay was comfortable and quiet with a room on the main floor adjacent to the smaller courtyard. I helped organize a volunteer appreciation event on the Saturday evening which included a dinner , speeches, and video presentation. The hotel was very accommodating and helpful. Special thanks to Paola for being organized and responsive. One of our guests had a birthday that evening and the staff did something special for him too.
The hotel is in a beautifully restored building. Rooms are spacious and the beds are wonderfully firm. I loved that the hotel provides glass bottles of water that can be refilled from urns located in the common areas. Staff were friendly and couldn’t have been more accommodating. Restaurant is good, although service a bit brusque at times. Location is just off the main square so convenient to everything.
