This property was disappointing in every respect, apart from its very good location. Upon arrival we were met by a young man in waiter's uniform from a nearby restaurant.Apart from receiving full payment for our stay at the apartment, his only other interest seemed to be to try to persuade us to eat at the restaurant. No explanation of the facilities was offered, nor information about possible housekeeping services. The apartment was much smaller than advertised on the internet. The floor was filthy, leaving our bare feet covered in dirty black stains. The shower drain was blocked with long dark hairs from previous guests, leaving us ankle-deep in grey water. The bathroom was separated from the public corridor by a partly frosted window, so that other guests outside the room can see everything one does in the toilet. The walls are paper thin so our room was always noisy. There are no instructions displayed for guests requesting them to be quiet at nights, and a noisy group in the next apartment would stagger in at 3am.and scream and shout until dawn, making sleep impossible. Our impression was that the building has no management or supervision, and that anything goes. There are several lovely hotels nearby in Casco Viejo offering accommodation at the same price, and with breakfast included.Best to avoid this place, and find clean, quiet and comfortable lodging elsewhere in the neighbourhood.…
Our group of two couples rented two rooms in Casa MarAlta for two nights. Each room (up one flight of stairs) is different, updated and modern. Both had good AC and comfortable beds. The location is on a quiet street within walking distance to many restaurants and shops. The owner can arrange transportation from the airport for an extra fee. The code to the main door and the wifi information is sent to you prior to your trip via an email. The check-in was a bit awkward for us, because we had to wait on the interior steps for someone to show up with the room keys and to take payment. We arrived late at night and we were a bit unsure of the process, but it did all work out just fine.
We recently spent four nights at this renovated french era building in the heart of historic Casco Viejo. 19' ceilings, with tastefully appointed furnishings, included breakfasts cooked to your requests, AC, internet. Very attentive staff. Despite dire warnings of crime in this area, we felt very safe at all times, although you are in the midst of poverty in this area of gentification. Tourist police are everywhere. Only two units with common dining room and living room make this a perfect place for two couples travelling. Their website Casamaralta gives accurate picture of the place. If you like the sounds of local kids playing soccer in the streets and seeing families sitting out chatting in the evenings after the heat of the day, I highly rate this site.
