This is an old canal house turned into a hostel. The property was clean, including the rooms. We did not witness the mold or musty conditions that others experienced. A/C was loud but worked. We liked the views from our corner room on the top floor. The kitchen area was clean and functioning. Breakfast was included but lame but about... More

Located far from the center of Panama City, this large building contains several types of rooms and a community kitchen. I stayed in a double room with air-conditioning and a private bathroom. The room was pretty bare and the bedding was worn but clean. The bathroom was showing its age and had a moldy smell. The low point was the... More

For 40 something $ a night for a room with 2 beds, AC, hot water and wifi, plus a modest breakfast, you cannot ask for the luxury of a Hilton! What I liked about the Amador Hostal is the house for one, an old house from the time of the Americans and the canal, and the neighborhood which has several... More

Stayed here a few days ago. Location is good for Casca Viejo, the causeway and MIraflores. Rooms are okay, but our light didn't work and tv very old and almost inaudible. Self serve Breakfast which is included is so bad, it pretty much consists of very cheap bread and boring cereal with some old looking jam in the fridge. For... More

We (couple 41 & 50) stayed at Hostal Amador Familiar in March 2014 for total of four nights. We paid $38 a night for a room with bathroom, 24 hour air-conditioning, ceiling fan and cable TV. The first room was very small and basic with one double bed. The bathroom was small, too. The seco d room was bigger with... More

We were recommended to stay here by another hostel that turned us down because we have two young children. We were originally in another hostel (Mamallena) that was just not right for us at all, way too crowded! The pros: AC in every room; TV with cable in every room; wifi speed is decent and reaches from the rooms to... More

Fun to stay in an old canal house. Safe location. Not the best directions. Driver had no idea where it was from the bus terminal. Good thing I had a guide book. Best part was a shop around the corner past the pizza place with an awesome selection of Panama textiles at good prices. Stocked up before my trip back... More

My husband and I stayed here for one night and found it friendly, safe and convenient. We had booked a private room and were pleased with the furnishings and the bathroom. Best shower we've had in PA so far! The only complaint was that our AC knocked out and we had to open windows during the night, which was quite... More

My wife and I stayed at the Amador Familiar on two different occasions while visiting Panama City. Both times at the Amador Familiar we booked a private room with air conditioning, private bath and comfortable bed. This hostel is in a safe residential neighborhood and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Initially, we thought the location was a little... More
