This family-run B and B is one of the most charming places I have ever stayed. The property itself is an idyllic escape from Managua's craziness, and the owner and his staff have an incredible sense of hospitality. I would highly recommend staying here, if you want to escape the chain hotels and come in contact with real Nicaraguan hospitality.

The only thing about Managua Hills that is above a 1 star is the staff, who are kind, helpful, and patient. They assisted and allowed us to use their computer and printer to fill out the paperwork necessary for travel back to the U.S. Beyond that...The hotel is extremely dated and dirty. I have done lots of 3rd world travel and enjoy "basic but clean." This hotel does not offer that standard. The sheets on the bed looked slept on, a pillow smelled so badly of a previous sleeper that it had to be thrown on the floor, and the room was dim and depressing. Towel racks were loose and unhinged. I wish we had left after the first 15 minutes but decided to stick it out. It is really bad and should only be stayed at as a last option. The worst of it was the sheets, pillows, blankets. Our bottom sheet did not even fit the mattress and when it peeled off, what we could see of the mattress pad beneath it was stains of different color and who-knows-what origin. Really, really bad! And I am a positive person. Try another place, and hopefully, the owners will realize they need to step it up. Sorry to the (all male) staff who seemed to be trying to hold it together as best they could.

I recently stayed at Managua Hills for a weekend getaway. It was everything I was told it would be. Very clean, the staff were super courteous and the coffee was delicious. I didn’t take advantage of the breakfast, but it did smell delicious. The owner?/manager? Was super helpful and very knowledgeable. I am only giving 4 stars because the weekend was fairly overrun with a children’s birthday party and some of the kids were boisterous and obnoxious (typical kids birthday party lol) However by no means was this the fault of the hotel, or the staff. Overall I would definitely stay there again without hesitation. I ended up checking out a day early, and the Manager was super accommodating with my request.

We always stay at Managua Hills when coming or leaving. It is consistently clean and the staff is always very welcoming. This trip was a little different as we were 3 Canadian couples from Nicaragua, wanting a safe place to meet up and enjoy each others company during the pandemic. The owner, Young--went above and beyond to make us comfortable. He even set up a huge fan to keep us cool while we chatted for hours in the common areas. The pool is lovely and the included breakfast was once again perfect. I highly recommend the pancakes. The rooms were all spacious and clean which is all I really require from a hotel room. At first glance, I was unsure of the bed but it was so comfortable and everyone had a great sleep. The only issue was a slight hiccup with the hot water, but it was hot out anyways so no one really minded. That is not usually a problem so perhaps it was related to the storm.

I always stay at Managua Hills when visiting Managua. Excellent neighborhood with privacy and well manicured garden landscape. The rooms are nice and spacious and very well appointed. The owner and staff will go out their way to make you feel at home. The breakfast is very good.

We visited during a difficult time in Nicaragua with all the unrest around us. Young and his staff made us all feel very safe and welcomed. I cannot say enough about this place. They always went out of their way to make sure all our needs were met. The rooms were perfect. A/C was cold and the showers had hot water. What more can you ask for in Nicaragua??? Breakfast was always ready when we requested and every day they had a special treat to meet us. I highly recommend you ask for the Mango bread! Thank you Young...we were very fortunate to find your little piece of paradise.

I arrived in Managua at 7:30 pm April 20, 2018 (I travel solo). It was the second night of student-led protests, which started as an outbreak of fury over unfair social security reforms in which the government was to apply a 5% tax to old-age and disability pensions and increase the contributions paid by both employees and employers, while their money is wasted on things like the artsy metal trees on medians in Managua. At the airport I had planned to have been met by a friend, but since roads all over Managua were closed due to the protests, he was stuck in traffic, I managed to share a ride in one of the few taxis that made it to the airport. Needless to say, the ride from the airport was stop and go, with protesters all along the roads, fires under each metal art tree called the "Árboles de la Vida" (on which much of the peoples money was wasted), and tire fires in the middle of each intersection. Mostly the protesters were peaceful and I felt a great solidarity, but it was INTENSE! (I hadn't heard this was happening when I left home). After an amazing taxi driver navigated through the heart of Managua trying to find roads that weren't blocked with fires & protesters, we finally pulled up to Managua Hills. I must admit I was nervous that I was being dropped off in the right place, but as soon as I opened the cab door, there was Young, the owner to meet me with a big smile. He told me I was in the right place, and got my bag for me. He immediately asked me if I was ok and if there was anything I would like, would I like a drink? -- it's like he read my mind!! He showed me my room so I could stow my bag & told me my drink would be waiting. When I went through to the gardens in this amazing Oasis it was a complete dichotomy from what I had just been through. I was offered a tasty whiskey and was honored to sit with some beautiful, amazing people Young, Jimmy, Young's sister (Wade?) & family friend (so sorry I forgot your names) we talked for hours about the situation outside, hearing news reports occasionally and making alternative plans in case things got worse. Although my introduction to Managua was intense, sitting in the gardens at Managua Hills was one of the nicest experiences I've had at a hotel (and I travel alot). They made me feel safe, welcome and comfortable and treated me like family. My room was spotless clean, comfortable and air conditioned. The bed was so comfy and I had a terrific sleep. As I slept, Young made arrangements for me to meet my friend (who had finally made it to the airport, but had to stay in a nearby hotel for the night). The next day there was a cab to take me back to the Airport to meet my friend at 7:30 am (early as it was quiet out, protests ended and safe to go). I completely forgot to give Young any money for the snacks and whiskey he generously poured for me the night before and I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to my new friends but I hope they know how much I appreciated their company!!! Young, please tell your sister I will see her on Corn Island someday!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for your wonderful Oasis, your amazing hospitality and your beautiful hotel. I recommend this hotel completely and absolutely!!! I also plan on returning some day when I can explore Managua properly and to properly thank Young in person.
