This place is literally a home away from home. I've never felt so comfortable in another persons house, let alone a hostel! I had been travelling for 5 months before I came to Mali Mrak and it takes the cake in all areas. The hostel is incredibly clean, the staff was more than welcoming (Tonchi, Phillip, Vanzy, Nathan and Chris)... More

The hostel was the most beautiful hostel I've veer been in, full of fresh decor and creative finishes. The facilities were top notch, the location fantastic, and the staff? Simply heartwarming. A constanst stream of utterly fascinating individuals make Mali Mrak their home for a few nights in Zagreb, making it perfect for solo travelers like myself. I loved this... More

When my best friend and I googled the best hostels in Zagreb.. all we could find was HOSTEL MALI MRAK !!! So obviously, we decided to check it out for the two days that we were in Zagreb. They say that the first few days of a holiday can set the mood for the rest of your trip. All I... More

After a very long & delayed train journey from Budapest, we finally arrived in Croatia. Tired, sweaty, hungry & nervous about our next hostel. Then we arrived at Mali Mrak & I don't think I ever stopped smiling- if I could I would have stayed here for the rest of my trip. The staff were unbelievably lovely and hospitable (especially... My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our traveling across Europe, it was perfect! Igor was so welcoming and genuinely kind, the beds were comfy and had a fan to keep everyone cool at night. It has two kitchens, one inside and one outside, the outside one is the best to use as you're... More

You'll get the short version, after all: - You kept silent when Filip charged you less than your actual bill was - i made a mistake with your booking, as you pointed out, and he didn't know the full amount. When i checked your bill, i came to you and explained. - I believe you did that on purpose, even... More

I visited Zagreb with my sister and staying at Mali Mrak hands down made our visit - it's an amazing place with dogs, staff who feel more like friends, and a beautiful garden to relax in! As soon as we arrived (at 11pm) we were made to feel welcome by Igor and another member of staff, who offered us wine... More

This place is great! The hostel owners are lovely and make you feel at home right away. There is a lovely garden area filled with fellow travelers with a great chilled out atmosphere perfect for relaxing when you're not out and about. The hostel is in the suburbs of Zagreb, it's a cute cosy house with a home-like atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and laid back, and they have a lovely outdoor area where everyone hangs out. However, because of it's location it can feel a bit confined, as there aren't any services within walking distance. This is emphasized by the... More

That's more or less correct, except for the ageism - from my experience (it's only about 10 years now) with, let's say 25,000 + people in a conservative estimate, it's a question of personal maturity rather than age itself (that's why it's called ageism), as i have shared my table with people from all continents and all ages. I'd recommend... More

We originally planned to stay for one night, but shortly after meeting the delightful staff and all the residents, we opted for two. 'Moss' gave us some great advice for our trip and helped us with the logistics - thank you! All facilities were great, especially the showers (I'm very fussy about showers), Tres Bon!!! All-in-all, a beautiful place full... More

Aa, thank you Oliver, that's really nice. And the part about the showers is really appreciated, a lot of effort is put into keeping the house clean, since many different people (with equally different...habits:)) use them. Kind regards from all of us here!! More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hi there! If you need a warm, cozy place to stay at, you're welcome here, but please, indulge me and read on first, see what's up here, then make up your mind,ok? Thank you :) Take your time, read some the reviews (there's 1000+), that's what choosing the right hostel for you is about - ESPECIALLY those of unhappy guests because they tell a good story - if you recognize yourself in them, please skip the booking and save us all the trouble, there are things more important than money -spoiled and complicated people are not a thing here :) Also, Mali Mrak is *NOT* a party hostel, we don't do pub crawls, drinking games or similar routines. The house is a simple, clean, warm and cozy place, run by friends, as well as an ongoing ambience & art project, with many contributions and handmade items from different places. While it has all the amenities of a hostel, we and a huge proportion of our guests think of it as home and way point for travelers. We prefer simplicity, honesty, spontaneity, sharing, community, common sense, talks, exchange of ideas, to see who you are and what you do - you have all our knowledge and resources at your disposal, as long as you respect the house and the people inside. The house is also ideal if you just want to have a quiet time on your own, bothered by no one, to do your own thing. Stuff that often happens, no schedule or plan though: Hiking trips, cooking, bike & other spontaneous tours around Zagreb. There's always good, local wine to be had here, at this time of the year that will often be mulled or spiced wine. We don't charge for *anything* except your bed, and that's it. LOCATION: We're located 15-20 min. by tram from the center, in a peaceful neighborhood, as well as 15 minutes walking from the nature park 'Grmoscica', located on the foothills of Medvednica, the local mountain. Ideal if you love hiking & nature. Also, for those who are traveling on a budget and have certain skills- if you can and feel like it, you can contribute /upgrade the house in a specific way - we love that (especially the art section has grown in the meantime). You certainly wouldn't be the first. ***PLEASE NOTE:**** The City Tax (7kn per person per night or cca. 1€) is not included in the room price you book . That's all, folks! igor ... more   less
