A gorgeous hotel, with super nice staff, ready to assist and very-very friendly! Rooms are big and well designed. Located in the heart of Sofia, immediately near very alive pedestrian street! The breakfast is amazing! Highly recommend!!

This stay was easily one of my best European hotel experiences and will, without a doubt, be the only place I stay when I come to Sofia. It wasn’t that my suite was spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable. It wasn’t even that the hotel is directly in the middle of the city with walking access to everything you could need. It was the staff for me! Upon check-in, Vanessa immediately med us feel at ease and welcome - a relief after a long trip over the pond. The bellman grabbed my bags and led me to my room before I even had a chance to bend down to get them. Everyone’s English was perfect and I didn’t feel even a tinge of that typical spiteful attitude many hotel staffs seem to reserve for Americans traveling abroad. Breakfast was the picture of Mediterranean elegance. The food was absolutely amazing in terms of quality, taste and presentation. The staff was helpful and super fast. I can genuinely say I looked forward to it each morning. Each night we prefaced dinner with a drink (or three) at the hotel bar, which is beautiful and newly renovated. Petko took excellent care of us and filled us in on the local attractions and the “must-do” restaurants. He even made us reservations for dinner. Petko was just as much the Ambassador/Concierge of Sofia as he was a bartender. We were lucky enough to meet the General Manager, Gergana, who not only gave us the most gracious thanks for our patronage, she also regaled us with the history of the town and the hotel itself. She was like a walking history book and was just as intelligent as she was witty. Truly a lovely woman and excellent representation of the Marriott brand, which I am fiercely loyal to. All in all, the stay couldn’t have been better in any way. The value was excellent and, quite frankly, I would have gladly paid more for the same experience. I can’t wait for my return to Sofia to stay here again.

Stayed here with 2 US colleagues for 2 nights separated by 2 weeks. The hotel is a little tired and parking is tricky in front of the hotel. That said, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the rooms were clean, cool and well equipped. We were all upgraded on the first stay to mini suites - very nice thank you. The breakfast buffet was quite remarkable, lots of options, freshly prepared and constantly being checked and replenished by the attentive kitchen staff. The hotel is really well positioned for walking into town and I’d certainly consider coming back here for a long weekend. There are some interesting ruins at the back of the hotel, well worth a look.

I had hoped that any accommodation I picked in Sofia would live up to my expectations as my first visit to Bulgaria and the greater region—and the Sofia Hotel Balkan was outstanding. Albeit historic, I found that most common areas and room features were in top shape. The ambiance was absolutely stunning, literally as if staying in a royal palace. Here are a few more details: - Staff were excellent and went above and beyond their duties to assist with anything I may have needed. I didn’t catch specific names, but one bellman in particular was fantastic and super helpful. The front desk was able to change my initial reservation, which was mistakenly made for the same dates in July rather than June 2021, and even honor the same rate—so generous and kind! Thank you for your awesome service. - A restaurant is on the property with breakfast in the morning at a reasonable time period. It is either included in your rate or not, if I remember correctly. The hotel isn’t too gigantic so as to get overwhelmed, but a nice variety of amenities like dining make a stay here worth it. - Wifi worked great, and noise was nonexistent in my interior-facing room. - I won’t delve too deeply into the rooms, but let me reassure you I adored them. Older, yes, but absolutely unique and special. I do drive an electric wheelchair, but despite this consideration from staff, the room given to me was extremely spacious and bright. The bed was super comfy. Everything was spick and span (clean). Amazing! Thanks for hosting me so well! I’ll be back and will recommend to my friends and family!

This hotel is a very poor value. It’s old and lacks amenities, no pool, no spa, horrible fitness center. This doesn’t stop them from pricing the rooms similar to the best hotels Sofia has to offer. Without extensive rennovation and adding proper 4 or 5 star facilities this should be a budget hotel.
