I went there for the first time in 2009, it was such an Amazing experience! So, even if my local friend tried me to take me somewhere else, I insisted on going there! The entrance has a long stair, not the best thing for the ones who bring suitcases instead of backpacks, but if you ask the front desk attendant...

The hostel is localized an old building of "Ciudad Vieja". It is just a few steps from the Montevideo Cathedral, and two or three blocks from "Plaza de la Independencia", Mercado del Puerto" and Teatro Solis. There are many restaurants nearby and it seems to be a safe area. The staff could be more helpful, and bathrooms' cleanliness could be...

Based on value alone, this place is terrible. I cannot understand why this place rates highly on Tripadvisor. 720 pesos a night for an unclean, and very unhygienic bed in a dark and dingy dorm. *I am talking from comparable experience; hence over 120 reviews. Feedback for travellers: The staff are friendly, but that is about it. I have stayed...

We booked this hostel through a popular worldwide hostel service due to its high score in previous reviews. However when we arrived we discovered that it does not live up to its reputation. 1) The beds (mattresses) were filthy. There were mattress protectors on them, but these were dirty too. 2) The pillows were not just yellow with age, but...

Very friendly staff, helping out wherever they could. Good atmosphere and good location at the beginning of the old town. After one week I felt like at home, because it's a small place and very familiar. I especially liked the weekly dinner for all guests and staff and cooking sessions with other guests. My stay was enriched by the special...

My favorite people (who just happen to work at a hostel in Independencia Plaza) were gone! A sign on the door routed me to El Viajero on Rincon and Ituzaingo. A very helpful man walking up from the Mercado del Puerto went with me looking for the place. It's half way down the block. He warned me approximately 6 times...

Very helpful staff, clean hostel, and above all great location (in the old downtown)... here are the main advantages of this friendly hostel. Free computers are also available, common rooms are nice to spend time and share with others. Definitely a place to recommend!
