This hotel is unique. Some reviewer I had read compared it with the Grand Budapest Hotel of movie fame -- I think there is some accuracy in that. Famous in its day and no significant capital outlays, updating, or investments have been made in it since. So why the 4-stars? Two answers: 1. its unique charm, 2. Where else in...

Those of you asking to see renovations, don't hold your breath. The Gran Bolivar Hotel is being put up for auction on January 24, 2017 by the municipality of Lima because the present owner has not paid back taxes.

I read the reviews that excitingly welcomed in a trip to yesteryear. I have travelled widely in Central and South America and love the old town centres that aren't carbon copies of middle class blah. So I booked and stayed 2 nights. The hotel met my expectations. Grand, old, charming. It really is like stepping back in time. A forgotten...

OK so a few celebs stayed here in past years. This stately pile needs to wise up and upgrade before it's too late. Decent junior suite half rack price through internet booking service. Good size rooms but cracked sink and oh so tired fixtures and fittings. I'll go for a modern hotel on the coast next visit.

Grand old hotel. Located on the Plaza Martin and a 5-10 minute stroll down Jiron de la Reunion to Plaza Mayor. The staff was very nice and while the room was ancient, it is a classic. Lots to do and plenty of restaurants in the area. One caveat; I was there on a Saturday night and there was a special...

I loved the old world charm of this hotel and the location is second to none! The rooms were large, open and well presented. The staff friendly and attentive. The restaurant offered great food and drinks at a reasonable price!!

This hotel would have been "Gran" indeed back in the day, and certainly the go-to destination for celebrities and bohemians through the 1930's and beyond. It still does hold a bit of old world charm, even if it gives the impression that wi-fi is the only addition in the last 70 years. But that's what I expected, so when coupled...

We wanted to experience the El Centro part of Lima during our visit and the location for Gran Hotel Bolivar was perfect; we walked to the sites and areas we were interested in. This is a long-ago grand hotel with a great history. I loved staying here and would recommend it, but don't expect an up-to-date chain hotel type experience,...

Ok, it is an old hotel. Classy entry. Slow old elevators. Old furniture in the rooms. Old fixtures in the bathrooms. But the management knows how to run a hotel, and tries to keep everything in good condition. Nice location to come and go several times each day as you enjoy the ambiance of the center of Lima. Check the...

you will never forget your stay here...such history...such fading grandeur! It was like living in a time warp!. Everything is tired at the edges...from the fraying carpet to the bathroom! On the plus side the room was large and airy. Bed was comfy but pillows strangely hard!...and it was cheap too...and perfectly placed for the city centre
