After spending 2 weeks in the Jungle my flights were cancelled 1 day before I was due to fly back to Ireland. I contacted The Palau Amazonas Hotel and they were more than accommodating. I spent a further 2 weeks in Peru due to the Peruvian Covid-19 lockdown. The hotel room had air conditioning and a good flat screen TV. A mini fridge is there if requested. The bed was very comfortable and very clean. The hotel Manager/owner arrived every day with a dinner free of charge out of the goodness of her heart. It was scary times in Peru but the staff really looked after me and I will forever appreciate this. Overall I would highly recommend this family run hotel if travelling to Iquitos. If you were going on a jungle trip like I was and you arrive in Iquitos a day or 2 before hand then it is ideal for comfort before you head off on your journey. They also do an Ayahuasca breakfast if wanted. If you are simply there for a visit then it is worth the stay.…
Booked this hotel for one night before our Amazon excursion. I don't know HOW this place has a Certificate of Excellence but it definitely does NOT deserve it. 1. Front staff could not speak or understand English which became a problem when he charged me the wrong price (higher than what my reservation said) and for some reason, could not resolve the issue that night. He kept telling me in broken English "tomorrow" but would not provide me with anything written as proof that he overcharged me - not even a receipt. Thankfully the next morning, there was a lady (maybe the manager?) who spoke English, apologized and returned the over-charged amount. 2. Wifi did not work in our room; only in the lobby. Went to the front desk to let them know but it was still the gentleman that could not speak English. 3. They didn't have the air conditioning turned on in the lobby or the breakfast area but, seeing us very obviously fanning ourselves in the breakfast room, they turned on the air conditioning. Unfortunately, our Amazon tour was ~ 30 mins late picking us up so we were waiting in the breakfast area and they turned off both the air conditioning and the lights while we were in there waiting ... 4. We tried to borrow a phone from the lobby to call our Amazon tour company, and their phone did not work! The other people on the line could not hear a word we said! Overall, found this a very disappointing experience and I do not understand how this hotel has a certificate of excellent. It definitely does not deserve it and I don't want other travelers to be fooled into staying here, as it was the worst hotel of our 2 weeks in Peru.…
had an overnight stay on the way to an Amazon forest trip. the hotel while not very fancy is extremely clean, very hospitable staff, good fixed menu breakfast and in the heart of the city. the hotel is also close to a fairly large supermarket. good place for short stays. repeat, extremely clean with decent aircon
The hotel was good on communication before we got there. They arranged a taxi to pick us up. On arrival the communication went to so-so. We were going to a remote lodge the next day and that lodge had left a gift and a note about our pick up the next day, but we did not receive it until the next day. Pros: the room was clean, the water was hot, and the breakfast was onsite, easy and good. Cons: the A/C had been off and we arrived late at night so we didn't have time to get the room cooled down before bed. Also the room had poor acoustics, so you relying on having quite neighbors; someone around us was talking on the phone for a few hours late at night and the conversation just bounced into our room.
For the price, this hotel offers good value for money. We were glad to pay a bit extra for the extra comfort after a gruelling Amazon tour. Staff were all lovely, especially the woman at the breakfast bar. Beds were comfortable. The shower was hot on day 1, lukewarm on days 2 and 3 (but never cold). Air conditioning worked well. Breakfast was amazing for Peruvian standards (a la carte eggs!). Location is great, very near to main plaza. Overall, would recommend this hotel to others.
