We arrived in Iquitos today and we stood outside and rang and rang the door bell and no one came to the door. We asked someone in a nearby shop and he said it closed several months ago. We booked with Booking.com and were not advised it had closed. Don't book this hotel

After checking out Lonely Planet with too many backpacker suggestions, we consulted tripadvisor and the reviews are right-Delfin deserves 5 stars. The hotel is 9 blocks from the center-you won't miss not being there. The area is safe but not too inviting but nor is the city as such. Once you enter, you are in a different world. It felt like OZ. Clean inviting and friendly. We were met by an enthusiastic receptionist who helped us with our bags, showed us the room and made sure we were well settled in. The room- we booked the deluxe one- is nicely appointed and very clean. We were served breakfast in the room by yet another set of young and friendly employees. The hotel is clean and quiet. In the deluxe room the sleeping area is in a glass enclosure which provides more noise protection. You can't beat the staff for friendliness.

While this place has a casual air, the rooms are amazing for Iquitos. Super clean, comfortable, and pretty spacious. The staff was very helpful in all manners we needed and behaved very professionally. Warning: Don't do laundry here... My one gripe about service was that we dropped off load of laundry for the hotel to do. Like a fool, we expected the service to be reasonably priced like everything else in the hotel/Iquitos and the didn't check the prices. When we came back we were slapped with a S/.150 bill (I'm sure I've done laundry for the same or cheaper at the Four Seasons in the US). Which in Iquitos is like $150 USD in terms of value. We eventually talked the outrageous price down to half. Which the staff also agreed with us... is still outrageous. Especially when there is a full service laundromat nearby that will do everything and more for S/.20. Still, that was our bad. Also - don't expect wifi to be faster than a sloth here. Overall we LOVED our stay at Delfin.

I was pleasantly surprised by the suite we got at a reasonnable price, although initially a bit put off by the fact you have to climb 40 steps or so to get to the reception (they will help you get your luggage there, of course - it just seemed kind of strange). The suite was very large with good air conditioning (which you'll find very useful during the day). The only thing that was really worth the 4/5 instead of 5/5 was the noise! I heard it was like that for all hotels in the city itself, but DO BRING your earplugs with you if you want to sleep early or wake up late. The noise of moto-taxi in the street is absolutely overwhelming and if you're the kind of people to love the sikence of nature: this is NOT for you. The service and accomodation were excellent for the price.
