Hotel's Favourite
I’ve been to this hotel twice now. The first trip was July 2018 and my luggage was super delayed with the airline. Rudy was amazing and very helpful in getting my bag back to me. I wonder how much longer than 3 days it would have been without his help!! I got to thank him again in person on my second trip to Iquitos in November 2020! This hotel is certainly comfortable and a welcome respite for before and after time in the jungle.

They were undergoing some renovations at the time of this stay. I live in Iquitos and have been here both as a guest and just to eat at the restaurant several times at this point so I know it quite well. To be honest, it’s just “okay”. It isn’t like staying at a Hilton in the US or Canada. The service isn’t as good. The restaurant menu is just so so and the overall impression is just kind of “alright”. Mind you, considering you’re in Iquitos, it’s not bad in comparison to some of the dumps you’ll find here, but it’s still just okay. Why might you ask have I been here so often if indeed it’s just “okay”? Because there aren’t really any options in Iquitos that are comparable. It IS clean, air-con throughout the building, decent ambiance, friendly enough staff and sort of makes you forget about the sh*% hole of a city that you’ve found yourself in. Showers are usually hot but the last time I was there they were only luke-warm. The price is usually around $100 bucks for two people which is okay but don’t expect lavish and luxury.

I was just on a repatriated flight to the USA from Peru. After being in the jungle for over 2 weeks we were escorted to the hotel by the Minister of Tourism of Iquitos himself. I spent one full week in the Doubletree in Iquitos. I want to cry just telling you all about the meticulous care we received while in quarantine. There was non stop cleaning by the staff, great care was taken to protect the 15 of us from the virus. The staff live in the hotel and work tirelessly in shifts. We ate gourmet food three times a day and the price was not inflated but accommodated us staying there from around the world. I have been staying at the hotel for 13 years and I knew once we were taken to the hotel we would be fine. Thank you to the administrators and staff💞

As I write this note, I'm safe and sound quarantined in my home in Texas. But, I can tell you what it was like to be Stuck In Iquitos at the Hilton for over 10 days while we waited for US to extradite us. The hotel and staff were simply beyond wonderful and we are indebted in so many ways. Not only were the staff professional, calm, attentive, and congenial, they were also stuck there with us during this time. No one could go out or in and that included the staff. So, as anxious as we were to get out, they were are also missing their children's birthdays, their families there loved ones and potentially being exposed by unknown tourists. Now most of us had already been self quarantined ina our meditative retreats, or bird watching ships, etc for many weeks and knew we were negative, but THEY DID NOT KNOW. We were treated like family. On my birthday, I was determined to celebrate and they were able to make a chocolate cake, find champagne and help us remember to live and laugh. They went way beyond any hotel would have done and truly gave all they had to help us navigate a frantic situation with incredible stress. Elderly folks running out of medication, ensuring safe virus protocol, and remaining helpful, calm and cheerful. I plan on returning!! There is simply no better test of a person, an organization, or an establishment than during difficult times. And a pandemic and a political shutdown with martial law certainly qualify for a definition of DIFFICULT. Thank you to all! I am forever indebted and hope you all stay safe. I know you currently still have a variety of people for all nations still trying to get out.
