Our stay at Posada del Rio was actually fine until we had to check out. We were scrambling to get ready for a backpacking trip that day and got a little lost in the city, so we returned to the hostel about 1/2 hour after check out time. I realize this is our fault, but literally no one else was...

Great location right in the old part of town. Close to restaurants and only a $2 taxi from the airport and bus terminal. Double bed mattresses could be a bit more comfortable. Adequate kitchen, lovely people running the hostel. Wifi only in kitchen and lounge areas.

Ok. First up the positives: Beds are comfy, the shared kitchen is handy and the location is great just off Calle Larga However, it's a very old building so the floorboards creak and so it can be a bit noisy inside. I also felt the oldness of the place reduced the atmosphere here, which is non existent. Finally, there is...

Posada del Rio feels like home away from home. It's just a private house from a very friendly family, there are dormitories (8 USD) or private rooms (10 USD) with shared bathrooms. You can use the kitchen, nice homy livingroom, always someone to talk with, good WiFi. And the house is just beautiful. Historic and rustic. I recomend this place.

We felt so comfortable & at home here. Super comfortable beds for just $8. The kitchen is really well equipped. In the evenings it was lovely to prepare meals with other guests & hang out in the common area watching a movie, chatting, drinking tea, etc. Hot water reliable. If your bus leaves late after checkout you can continue to...

We had a really lovely stay here - the location is great, the rooms are nice and there is a great kitchen to use. Except after our 2 night stay, we observed the typical bed bug bite patterns on our bodies (i.e. three bites - breakfast, lunch and dinner!) Upon showing these to the owners, they claimed they are just...

I can't recommend this hostel, not only is there is no breakfast included (which is uncommon), the owners are neither friendly nor helpful, which makes it overall fairly gloomy. it's close to nice restaurants and has TV in English, that's all.

Had a great time at this wonderful hostel! Only $8 a night for a dorm bed and it's right in the heart of the city! It includes breakfast, too. This is for sure one of the nicest hostels I've ever been to. Super comfortable, cute, and charming, a very well-equipped, big clean kitchen to use and the whole place is...

Cute hostel, good location, peaceful. This would be better for a couple or some friends traveling together. (I was a solo traveler looking to meet others - this was not the most social hostel.) I wanted to like this hostel – cute old building, really nice owners. But there were several problems. --The owners were almost never around. Or they...

We spent Christmas in Cuenca and had such a great time. In the specious and clean(!!) kitchen of this hostel we could prepare a delicious Christmas dinner. We stayed in a dorm with 5 big, clean and comfy beds an used the shared bathrooms which are also cleaned carefully every day (hot water). The hostel also has a pleasant day...

“Since this hostal is near to the main drag, it can be a bit loud at night. With ear plugs, the dorm room on the second floor was absolutely fine. Some guests stay here for months. Private rooms may be in short supply.”

“I would go for the rooms on the upper floor, next to the bathroom. They are facing the backyard and you are as far away from the squieaky steps as possible :-)”
