For those looking for a cool spot to stay in Quito on a budget, do go to The Secret Garden. The same location also has tour operators which can help you get the most out of your stay in Ecuador. My favorite thing about the garden is the awesome roof garden and restaurant. It has a magnificent view of the old...

The double room was quite small. There was a travel agency in the hostel which was handy. Not a whole lot around the hostel to do. They offered food each night which was good as there is no restaurants around.

Ok hostel with great social vibe. Double room with shared bathroom was basic and loud due to the many communal areas. Great upstairs bar area that is always crowded and sells food and drinks (not cheap and dinner does sell out). Within walking distance of the old town. Best for singles.

One of, if not my favourite hostel so far in my 2.5 months in South America. 5 star view of the city from the upstairs breakfast/dinner terrace, which happens to be really social :) great vibes, was easy for a solo traveler like me to socialise. Hot water, and cosy rooms, also sits on top of the carpe diem travel...

This hostel is by nothing. There is no close by food or anything. I hated the atmosphere of this place is awful. The people aren't welcoming and the staff is rude. We were just sitting on the terrace and they were playing music too loud and just smoking weed out in the open. People who weren't guests were kicked out...

We had 2 bed in an 8 bed dorm. One of the 2 beds, the mattress was beyond usable. We asked the staff to change bed and there was no issues doing so. That being said the mattresses should be upgraded. No ladder to get on one of the beds so needed a stool to get up. A bit ridiculous...

I booked my First 2 nights in secret garden in Quito and had a lovely stay. They arranged an airport pick up and the staff was really friendly. In total a really nice hostel, a beautiful view from the terasse, nice rooms, very close to the old town, and a place to feel cozy and welcomed.

The showers are gross. They are honest about this - some showers have better pressure than others, just don't forget your shower shoes. The beds are clean. Rooms could use painting to freshen up. Bar/lounge on the top floor is the best part of the hostel. So feel free to stay else where and just come get your meals here....

This was my first experience with any hostel. I thought this was a good, inexpensive place to stay in Quito. Breakfast and dinner were served each day. There is a laundry area and a travel agent inside this hostel. The rooftop view of Quito in incredible. AND, hot showers!! The only negative thing about this hostel is that it can...

First of all, it should be noted that Secret Garden makes a concerted effort to be a resource for any traveler who stays there, and they do a truly good job at it. Especially for those who take the time to volunteer at the hostel. The volunteer opportunity includes 100% free room and board, plus other discounts, perks, and invaluable...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Secret Garden Quito is a friendly Australian/Ecuadorian/French family run hostel conveniently located in a quiet, authentic cobble-stone street in central Quito. Our 'barrio', or neighbourhood, is one of the few remaining Colonial districts and even our building is protected by a United Nations World Heritage listing. With a big improvement in security in the Old Town in recent years, plus 24 hour police patrols, our neighbourhood now enjoys a level of safety and security equal to (or often better than!!) most international capital cities. But there's more!!Our beautifully restored colonial building features a rooftop terrace/restaurant/bar with breathtaking views of the historical Old Town. Feel free to browse our hostal book exchange, chat with our friendly Ecuadorian and foreign staff, check your email (free use of computer and free Wifi), or just relax listening to any of our wide selection of music. ... more   less
