3 couples stayed here for five days and we loved it! Converted old house with wonderful plant filled central courtyard very centrally located in old city. Lots of charm and historic artefacts. Sonya the proprietor is delightful. Breakfasts are great. Rooms are fine although you hear a lot of noise from the street but that didn't worry us. Couldn't recommend... More

What a gem! beautiful common areas and lovely rooms. Everything was exceptionally clean and the room returned to perfection every day. my bathroom was small but efficiently designed. Doors aren't particularly sound proof but things quiet down early there. Breakfast in the cafe is to order and yummy. One morning i was rushing out to catch a bus and stopped... More

We used this hotel as a base for a three week vacation, and stayed 8 nights both during time in Quito and between trips. The location in the old section of Quito is great, right next to Plaza San Francisco, although it is a little hard to find. The inside spaces are amazing, full of an eclectic mix of artifacts... This boutique hotel is for the adventurous, the artist, the person who is charmed by antiques and history. Near the Plaza San Francisco in the historic area, it is conveniently located. The rooms surround an interior patio with a beautiful ceiling of glass birds. There is even a chapel with a sixteenth century Madonna. A very nice breakfast was included.

Stayed here with 4 adults & 1 child for 2 nights (2 rooms). There was initial mix up about bedding arrangements but the staff went out of their way to resolve it quickly with minimal fuss. It's a lovely old hotel, very good value for money. Sonia, her son & the other staff were really lovely to deal with. The... More

The Portal is a treasure in its own way. A great location and very friendly and helpful staff distinguish it. Some of the rooms don't have much light, so do inquire. The building was a convent long ago, then the home of a well-to- do family for a couple of centuries, and retains many original furnishings and a lovely chapel.... More

Portal de Cantuna was five minutes walk away to Plaza de Armas. Hotel's beautiful interior decoration was colonial with a wonderful ceiling over the inner courtyard. Room was nice. The free wifi connection was working good. It was kind to prepare a breakfast for us although we were leaving very early in the morning.
