Luis Alcivar, an outstanding bird guide by any measure, led our twelve-day tour of the East & West Andes Slopes that began August 1, 2016. The group consisted of three participants and had the feel of a private tour with all the benefits of a bird guide and a driver. We stayed all but two nights at lodges run by...

One of a number of lodges owned by Dr Jorge Cruz - each one unique. I will write a separate review for each of the 3 we stayed at. We had 4 days to spend in Ecuador for departing for Galapagos. We wanted to visit the forest and especially see humming birds. Through a good email conversation, Dr Cruz suggested...

After watching a nature show on the birds of Ecuador, we decided to explore the possibility of going someday to Ecuador. Thanks to the quick and masterful help of Cheryl Korowotny, the International Director of The Magic Birding Circuit for the San Jorge Lodges, we went from let's go someday to let's go now. Every aspect of this trip surpassed...

Dr. Cruz, his wife, and daughter sincerely reached out to our family to ensure our needs were met. The entire staff at San Jorge Quito and Tandayapa exceeded what I could have hoped for. Special thanks to Caroline for delicious food. Dr. Cruz is clearly a visionary. What an adventure we had! The fires lit nightly in Quito were amazing....

A wonderful hacienda, high in the mountains with a beautiful countryside, and a fantastic variety of bird and plants. Everything I could have hoped for. I loved my room here, with its fireplace, and the food was fantastic. Dr. George Cruz and Miguel were the guides for our group, and I found them to be fascinating to listen to, and...

The US director for the company, Cheryl, helped us greatly with trip planning and advice from the beginning. Our group had a wonderful experience on the Magic Birding Circuit, with Jorge Cruz as our guide. Jorge had an incredible eye for finding birds, identifying them by ear, and was very knowledgeable about the history, plants and archaeology of his country....

A beautiful lodge high in the mountains overlooking Quito, with lots of resident hummingbirds, excellent food and knowledgeable guides and trails where you can find many Ecuadorian species. Yes, the road there is rough, but once you get there the great bird life and scenery make up for it. I visited the Quito, Tandayapa and Milpe Ecolodges as part of...

First I have to say that Cheryl, the International Director for the Magic Birding Circle, was the person who made our trip a success. She is based in the USA and planned an itinerary to fit with our travel plans after we visited the Galapagos Islands. She was fast getting back to me by email whenever I had a question....
