My wife and I were on a 9 day birding tour of the Magic Birding Circuit that included lodges in Quito, Tandayapa, Milpe and Hollin. The Magic Birding Circuit provides opportunities to observe and photograph birds directly on the grounds of the lodges as well as extensive trail systems for finding birds that do not come to feeders. We were...

One day birding and photography at Tandayapa Lodge about 1.5 hours from Quito told me that Magic Birding Tours is a first class organization. George Cruz dedicated himself to our birding and photography experience. He is an expert birder, has diverse experience in many subjects, is an author of four books and is a visionary for the ecology of Ecuador....

Stayed in all three lodges, all having great views, a steady parade of humming birds, tanagers, toucans, plus many more. Find it amazing that both Jorge and Luis not only knew every bird that popped into view, but also knew where to find them. The meals were great and well served. Word of advise - get your lungs in shape...

We stayed at San Jorge Lodges in Quito and Tandayapa, and had a highly skilled birding guide, Luis Alcazar. He knew every sound and flash of wings, and was able to coax most birds into view for us. His knowledge and passion for nature were an unforgettable experience. The lodge owner George has put together an impressive network of private...

Our room was in the upper level which meant having a very strenuous climb each time we returned to it. Our first nights were very cold in the room until we were given a space heater. Our shower had a very poor head which shot water everywhere but on us when showering. The food was outstanding. The staff was very...

The lodge is located in the steep hills high over Quito with a wonderful patio overlooking the city and surrounded by bird feeders with dozens of hummingbirds. There are excellent nature trails surrounding the lodge. We were a group of birders and the owner of the lodge, Jorge Cruz, was our guide at this location and at others including his...

My wife and I arrived at 2:30 AM to the wonderful and cozy room on the exquisite gardens in Quito. Our next two days were spent enjoying the birds, grounds, and delicious and beautifully presented food. The staff was most accommodating with helpful information on the birds provided by Luis, Jorge's son. Jorge gave us personal birding service on the...

This trip was everything that was promised. Nonstop birding and adventure. Small groups, great guide, and facilities. Bring clothes for varied temps. You will get wet. This trip is strenuous, and the altitudes will have you puffing. The guides know the birds....and bring them in with phishing and calls. You will visit several ecosystems, each with different birds and plants....

I rate this trip outstanding in every aspect. The three lodges we stayed at were surrounded by acres of protected habitat and were a joy to experience. The food and service were superb at each lodge and all staff members were eager to attend to any requests from us. My group of four birders of medium ability were treated like...
