Location is perfect, walking distance to many places. The Raffles Hotel is just 3 minutes walk where we had the famous Singapore Sling cocktail. The hotel is modern, clean and compact. Room is not spacious but for the price and what you get, this hotel is perfect. City Hall MRT is only 5 minutes walk where it connects to the Airport directly.

We knew this was going to be a cheap and cheerful experience in a small room, so we deliberately got twin beds for slightly more room to move. What we were disappointed about was the layout of the bathroom. The toilet was at the back of a long narrow space and one had to walk through the shower area to reach it. The only mechanism to stop water leaking into the rest of the room whilst showering was a small raised edge that you’d have to be careful not to trip on every time you walked in there… to make it worse the shower rose didn’t fit properly into the hook to hold it in place so there was water everywhere! The room was actually designed for accessibility with a pull down seat if needed, with a tap directly underneath which would not be comfortable if actually needed and with all the water on the floor all we could see was someone slipping over instead and truly doing themselves an injury. The in room safe was broken too which was disappointing. Whilst the staff were nice and got us extra towels when we needed them and the beds were comfortable we’d recommend going elsewhere.

I have left Hotel Industry in 2014 and since then, I stay in non 5-star hotels during holiday as there is no more employee rate benefit.
This time, I went to Singapore to meet my Good Friend who needs to do medical treatment. The plan was quite sudden and I searched for a hotel near Bugis area and decided to stay at Hotel Kai due to recommendation rate is positive.
Surprisingly, the quality of facility and the service level of its employee were satisfactory.
The room was yes small but I was not shocking because the size was explained in the web, so the guest can imagine already before choosing the room. Even though it was small, but the facilities were all good. The bed was comfortable and can be recline

Lovely room but TV does not work , no reception or sign apart from a a4 piece of paper in the window.

You have pass through a restaurant to exit and come through the kitchen via the back door.

No night reception.. Glad I have only one night .

Very close to Raffles ...

Had book 1 night stay at sky loft room. The room was ok. Smaller than what we expected. 1 of the issue we face was the main aircon as it was abit faulty. Locations is awesome as it is nearby ammenities and local eateries. The balcony in the skyloft room is spacious for hangout. Overall not a bad hotel to stay at.

From the airport if you'll be taking a cab you will be paying 20SIN$ ( airport to hotel)
Me and my husband checked in last sept 24-27 Urban Premier (3E)The room was just PERFECT. I know its small but it's very comfortable we dont need big room since most of the time were out exploring Singapore there's
Free welcome drinks ( ice cold Beer included)
Comfortable reclinable beds
Very fluffy pillows
Safety box
Free wifi in our room
Cool airconditioning system
Very clean bathrooms
Breakfast daily ( everyday they change there menu)
4g wifi available you'll be needing this in touring singapore( but you need to deposit 200SIN$ but its refundable as soon as you check out )
There's a small bar at the lobby and...
Very friendly staffs and for this i would like to mention there names
SAMANTHA thanks for bringing new safety box in our room and very accomodating to our needs
Coco who is very patient with us whenever we are asking for shortest way going to eg: Universal studio and Gardens by the Bay
Sandra who greeted us on our first day and wanted to carry all our baggage even though it was heavy
Suki who is also very accomodating thanks for always giving us iced cold water
Ivan who prefers Asahi beer
Thank you for making our stay very memorable because of your hospitality.
Beside the hotel, there's a very cheap resto( Chin-chin ) they served best Hainanese chicken and Curry Fish head and Infront there's a Thai resto.
Hotel Kai is 2 blocks from Esplanade stn. appoximately 5 min walking from the hotel
I would HIGHLY recommend this boutique hotel if you want your stay in Singapore to be memorable aside from Singapores tourist spots of course
More Power!.... Small is more!!!

Start with good part, followings are good point for this hotel:
-The location was perfect, close to MRT, supermarket and good restaurant are nearby
-The breakfast was not tasty but convenient
-Staff was average
-The room seems to be clean
The negative side I experience was one day the bathroom door was broken after I came back to the room. Apparently janitor or staff broke the door, but they did not report to their manager. I felt very uncomfortable though the manager changed the room afterwards. Also, when I checked-out the hotel, they claimed my bed sheets has stain (little black dots), so I might need to pay for the sheets. Why...?? I did not recall I made black dots stain on the sheets. They even have not provided me the evidence. I felt like that's a rip off. There are possibility that the stain was not from me, since janitor and staff can come into the room anytime. It means possibly that customer guest may get claim whenever there is any fault in the room. So it would be better to take some photos before you leave the room for the evidence everyday. I hesitate to say, but I don't feel like a home away home like this environment.

Dear Ellie_in_Tokyo Otsukaresamadeshita. Please accept our sincere apology on the incidents that was not well handle by us, our investigation show that our housekeeper did not break the door but he failed to notice the defect on closing the bathroom door as all bathroom doors are supposed to be slide open after the cleaning and he had left it originally in the slide open position, our Reception team have been brief to handle the stain or damaged item well before we try to fix it, we sincerely hope to welcome you back again and provide you a home away home experience, please do contact me at mgr1@hotelkai . com as I will like to ensure your good experience with us. Hotels are expensive in Singapore and space is at a premium, however even taking these factors in account, there are a number of alternatives around the same price that provide more bang for your buck.

I stayed in an urban suite, which from what I could tell is the mid-sized choice of room. The room is literally a bathroom with a bed in it. Even by other "micro-hotel" standards, it is miniscule. You are sleeping next to a basin, toilet and shower - that's literally it.

Check-in seemed a little disorganised, and after meeting a local friend at the airport then checking in, they emphasised 5 times that I had only booked the room for 1 person - and five times I told them I was the only one staying. Being called a liar is not a great way to start a relationship with a customer!

General summary: wifi is decent; TV reception poor; quality of finish poor; aircon is ok; water pressure is ok; hot water is ok; bed-linens were not the greatest; towels were not good. I did not try the food.

The worst thing was the lack of cleanliness. In such a small space, you need it clean, and the room wasn't. The shower tray and floors still had soap scum on them and the general build up of grim had clearly occurred over some time. The rooms need some serious scrubbing to get them clean, and whoever is doing the cleaning needs to be replaced. There are a few photos here already which show some examples.

Check-out was a bit clumsy, and the hotel is not well served by taxis because its in a back street (you need to call a taxi), but the best thing about the hotel was the location - there are some great restaurants in the same street, and its very close to raffles city.

Overall I wouldn't recommend it. You can get larger, cleaner rooms, with better amenities/linens for the same price.

Dear FrequentTraveller_xy We received your reviewed for Hotel Kai, after investigation, we regret to inform you that the room that you have booked and stayed in is Urban Studio instead of Urban Suite that you had mentioned (all 3 of our Urban Suite rooms are currently under refurbishment and we have never sell any of our suite rooms since opening this year). We do agree that it might be difficult to get a taxi at Purvis Street (which is not a back street) even though we have a designated stand taxi stand just diagonally opposite our Hotel on the same street as taxi drivers will usually drive around looking for passenger instead of waiting at the taxi stand. Upon your arrival, our Reception will first check with you on your original booking for room type, departure date, number of guest staying, room rate etc and will confirm this again prior to obtain your signature on the registration card, I do sincerely apologized for the wrong impression that must have upset you when I tried to offer a bigger studio room and mentioned that will it be more comfortable for 2 person and with the luggage that you have, unfortunately, you have declined my offered even after I extended the same offered when you told me your friend is not staying. You might like to contact me directly at mgr1@hotelkai.com for any clarification or with the few photos that you mentioned you want to show on the room cleanliness as there wasn't any attachment

We had great expectations arriving for our staycation at Kai. We had booked the Urban Sky Loft with balcony and in photos and bloggers reviews this room looked awesome.

Negatives:
At check-in, staff didn’t give a very warm welcome, she instead kept reminding us that the room is not meant for any parties or get-together. I understand where she is coming from, but there is no need to keep repeating this. Why would you assume that everyone who book this room will be holding a party. You have had guests who did hold parties, but we weren’t going to have any gathering so don’t treat us like them.

Although staff had asked housekeeping to check and clear the room before we entered, when we arrived we found the floors to still be dirty, there was a coffee stained cup that wasn’t removed and we only found it when we were going to make a cup of coffee. There was a small stain on the bed sheet at the upstairs room.

There’s a Dolce Gusto coffee machine in the room with no capsules. We called front-desk and she shared Housekeeping meant to bring the coffee machine down but they didn’t. So apparently it’s in the room but not meant for our use.

There’s a TV in the loft bedroom, and you can see it in the website photo as well. We tried switching it on, found that it wasn’t even plugged in and there’s no remote. We called front desk and they told us that the TV doesn’t work from the start. If it is not working then shouldn’t you update your guest or have it removed or fixed.

This room is noisy and especially so at night when you are trying to sleep. Noise is from the lift. This is not something that can be done, but this is not something you would expect from the top tier room of the hotel. The noise is very obvious.

There’s two small windows to cover the top loft bedroom window. One of the window the magnet is already weak, so it keeps coming back down when you try to close it.

The water from from the toilet is very weak. You need two flushes to flush away normal toilet paper. The faucet on the sink shows a hot and cold water indicator, but it only dispense out cold water, when we ask front desk they say theres no heater for the sink water.

Limited TV channels and it kept restarting on its own. Staff did come up and try to reset but the problem kept coming back. The radio station channel doesn’t work, and some channels has no volume at all.

Breakfast was included but there’s very limited options. Only toast, eggs, ham, cereals, coffee, tea and juices. Expected for a very small boutique hotel.

Overall this was a very disappointing stay. For $300/night with no other facilities , we wouldn’t recommend this for future staycations. The other rooms might be better but for the most expensive room it definitely wasn’t a stay to remember. At check-out, staff didn’t even ask for feedback or said thank you for staying. Hospitality definitely needs improvement.

Positives:
Bed is soft and comfy. When we requested for extra comforter they did give it to us with extra water bottles. We like that both beds can be adjusted with a remote, that’s a cool feature.

As a conservation building, the room was converted nicely to a hotel. The room has great unique features which was probably in better condition when it was first launched.

Spacious balconies. Great for having coffee and watching the sunset in the background. Not great for rainy days though.

We had a confirmed booking via booking.com. Our card was declined (reason unknown) but since we received a notification that our reservation was still on and we could pay when we get there, we didn’t expect it to be a problem. When we got there, first they couldn’t find our names for 20 minutes and after they did they told us our rooms are no longer available because they didn’t have the reassurance that we would be able to pay. I understand they have their own policies, but the problem was they were rude, they offered us to stay in the hotel for about as twice as the booked and confirmed price and even though they saw the confirmation with their own eyes they put the blame on the booking service and not themselves. Their answer was: Call Booking and clear this out with them. For someone who is in the hotel trade business they sure don’t know how to say welcome.

Dear Irina S Thank you for choosing Hotel Kai as your first preferred choice for your recent visit in Singapore, we regret to know that your reservation was not confirmed by Booking.com due to your declined credit card, we reckon The Fine Print "Please provide a valid credit card details upon booking. The property will not accept bookings with an invalid or declined credit card." which you can find on the page of Booking.com before you proceed to make a reservation is the explanation for your unconfirmed reservation, as we are not in the position to reply on behalf of Booking.com on the discrepancy with your reservation, we can only suggest you to call them, but we will be able to assist you anytime should you required our assistance. Meanwhile, we believe our team member have try to assist you by providing our best available rates base on the available rooms upon your arrival, we are confident to say best available rates as we will not charge any rates higher than Booking.com at the same point of time when you compare our room rates at the same types of room with them, the rates that you mentioned twice as much is exactly the same as what you find on Booking.com at the same time, thus it will be unfair for you to say we are rude base on this isolated incident as to do our best at helping guest and colleague is one of our mission at Hotel Kai which have been proven by numerous guest through reviews on Tripadvisor and Booking.com You might like to contact me directly at mgr1@hotelkai.com for your future booking as I hope you will have a fruitful experience with us, who knows, you might remove this Terrible review and replace it with a better one, looking forward to hear from you soon

You would need to contact the hotel if you wanted to pay them to transport you to or from the airport. I am not sure if they offer that service. It would be very expensive. If hotels provide a personalised transfer service you could pay SGD$60-100. I don’t recommend that as that option is a ridiculous high cost and not necessary. Most people take a taxi which depending on time of day or night could cost between SGD$20-35. Or go to the Ground Transport desk at any airport terminal you arrive in and organise the shared airport shuttle service. It costs SGD$9 per adult. It’s a slow trip as they have to gather enough passengers, and drop everyone in the city at their hotels, you may not be the first dropped off. But it’s a very good door to door service. Details are on the Changi airport website, and you can even book it online. Or you could get the MRT train which costs about SGD$2 but that option takes the longest. You get on the MRT train at the airport station, change stations at Tanah Merah station, that’s easy, you just cross over to the opposite platform and get on a city bound train. Then you stay on the train and get off at City Hall station. From there Hotel Kai is a few blocks walk away. Use Google maps or the gothere website which is a transport route tool. If you need any more help, ask us all on the Tripadvisor Singapore forum. Hope this information is useful. Avanti_SG (Destination Expert on the Singapore forum)
