Betel Box Hostel is an excellent place to stay in Singapore. Situated in a culturally rich neighborhood, it is also surrounded by an array of restaurants and shops. With a large collection of books and magazines, and of course free WIFI, their lounge area is a good place to hangout and meet new friends. Most of all, the staff are...

It's definitely cozy, with people lounging around in the 'living room' area, and wih friendly staff. the showers are a bit awkward from my experience as it was within the room so would have to consider the hours as to not disturb others... everything needed was available upon request with deposit, which is ok since you're going to return it,...

Stayed at Betel Box as a recommendation of a friend who has been staying in the hostel for weeks now. I love the cozy place, and the best spot is the lounge. Full of books, good internet connection, clean and most of all, friendly staff. Might go back to Singapore soon and will most likely stay in the same place.

This place is dirt cheap for Singapore, and probably the best hostel I've ever stayed at. The staff are friendly and really helpful. The lounge area is well equipped with pool table, board games, books, tv etc. The 20 bed dorm was a bit noisy but I grabbed a bed in a mixed 8-bed dorm and it was dead quiet.

I stayed in this hostel a night and I think I couldn't have chosen anything better. The price is cheap (to be in Singapore) and the staff were very friendly and polite, they'll help you if you want to go somewhere. The train station is about 12 minutes walk and there's a bus stop around 7 minutes walk where you...

booked the private room cause i brought kids, the room was so homy with it's typical local apartement view... clean and well organized. The staffs were very helpful and the books selection were good. Far from MRT but still you can get cabs/taxi right in front of your hostel. Got local hawker down from your room and all looks delicious.......

After a grueling overnight flight the Betelbox backpackers turned out to be an oasis! We received a friendly greeting and the cool air conditioning of the private family room awaited us. Friendly staff have given us a huge amount of advice about exploring this fantastic area known as Joo Chiat/Katong. Known for its variety of authentic cuisines (home of the...

Staying in Joo Chiat

Neighbourhood Profile
Joo Chiat
The Joo Chiat area is the traditional home of Peranakan culture in Singapore, an ethnic group descending from the blending of Chinese and Malay families in the 15th century. The neighbourhood is packed with colourful shops, local characters, and quiet charm. The main streets overflow with diners enjoying katong laksa, the signature Peranakan spicy noodle soup. Signs of youthful entrepreneurship are visible as well, with modern cafes, bars, and shops abounding. Visit Joo Chiat to take a break from the big city sights and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a laid-back and local vibe.
