We first thought that this hotel is a chance of life in Singapore, especially that we were in love with the location. But then, we could not wait until we go out of the hotel. The ants are everywhere, which was really irritating to the extent of being not able to have a restful night knowing that those little creatures live with you. The room was expected to be small, but not to the limit that two people cannot walk in the room without crashing by each other or by the furniture. And if we are about to talk abt the location, then I would like to say that bus and train stations are everywhere in Singapore and you could be afforded another hotel, cheaper, cleaner, better and still be close to the town in general.

We chose this hotel for its convenient location near DT19 and its affordable price. We spent minimal time in the room since we were in Singapore for just 14 hours and went out for dinner. Although the room was small [10 sqm], it was clean and equipped with a kettle, and the bathroom facilities were adequate.
The staff were friendly and helpful, even arranging a taxi for us at 6 a.m. There's also a convenience store just around the corner. Overall, it's ideal for a short stay. Would I stay here again? Yes, especially for a brief stopover, as it's more reasonably priced than the hotels near the airport.

Although I rated only average, the hotel served its purpose. We arrived at 1am and staff were so friendly and accommodating. The location is exceptional and convenient. Looks lovely from the outside. Very small rooms let the hotel down but big enough to have a good night's sleep and a shower.

The hygiene of the hotel room was extremely disappointing, utterly disgusting and completely unacceptable. We were in the room for 15 minutes, thinking that the room looked seemingly decent but only to find a bed bug/flea on the bed sheets. It was a traumatising experience as I was told by a hotel staff that the room had just been cleaned when we checked in. Although a room change was an option, we were unable to trust the hygiene of the hotel as the impression of a freshly cleaned room with bed bugs/flea have destroyed the trust between us and the hotel.

Our experience was also very distressful as we had an early flight to Singapore on that day and had to cancel our plans immediately to look for another hotel shortly after we checked in; not to mention that we had to pay out of our pocket to book another hotel.

We tried contacting the hotel via email to provide our feedback and a request for refund to the customer care team but was unable to reach them due to their mailbox being full and cannot accept any messages. It has been a month and my email is still being bounced back. I have also emailed Hotel 81 Chinatown but have not received any response. Very disappointed with the management and the customer service of this hotel.

DO NOT STAY HERE! You have been warned!
Quite simply, the most disgusting hotel I have ever visited.
Room was filthy, had congealed blood stains on the sheets, toe nail clippings, potato chips and hair all over the bathroom floor.
It is like something from a horror movie. I wouldn't let my dog stay here...
They changed our room when we complained, but the next room was the same. So much so that the receptionist came and attempted to clean the room (I'm assuming the housekeeper could not be bothered, or was too busy 'cleaning' the other rooms...)
We then decided we would not stay the.night and asked for a refund, the hotel refused, saying we would have to pay a cancellation fee. What a joke. We tossed the key into the tray and left.

Summed up in one word...

I found Hotel 81 to be a highly economical and extremely cheerful place to stay, while visiting the Lion City. It is safe and comfortable, plus has old world architectural charm, too. But arguably, it is the location that is the biggest selling point for this hotel, with; shopping, transport, dinning, drinking, museums, places of worship and entertainment (see my YouTube), all within easy walking distance.

The hotel is very good. The reception staff, Mr. Xiang Hong, is also very nice, sympathy, and considerate. I appreciate his service mind since the first day I visited. Next time I visit Singapore, this hotel will be my first choice.

First day we arrive at Singapore, at first we are not staying to this hotel. We are heading to our booking in "Diamond Residency" Chinatown. When we arrive and we found out the Hostel is bankrupt and we still found a man in that hostel but he told us that the people manage this hostel is runaway.

We are worried because its Christmas period and immediately found a hotel and we saw Hotel81 just in front Chinatown MRT.The hotel rate is day by day increase due to nearer to Christmas and we had no choice to paid 3 nite to stay there due to last minute.Beside , they need us paid for 3 nights fees in full without print receipt to us and that time i said must need a receipt from them since its paid.

Although it's out of our budget but is not a main problem , but there service is very bad!! First night , we had assign to the next door of the lift and beside our room that is a fire alarm system , every 5 sec will "Beep" 1time. It was irratating , the whole we can't sleep.

The next day we decide to change room and suddenly they restrict us cannot 4 people in a room. But when we had made our payment , there is no any restriction on headcount. But the staff no immediately take any action , then we just put our luggage on lobby. The same night , we back hotel around 12am and one of the staff mentioned we cant 4 ppl in a room.

She keep called our room line ... ringing 5 minutes keep disturb us and ask our freind immediately left the hotel said their hotel rules just give friend come 10 minutes. If not should check in another room. The room is not cheap SGD220 ++ per nite! Somemore is late night force us to check in another room.

The staff keep knocking our door and argue with us. She mentioned if tonight we will not check in another room , then she will forfeited our 3rd nite accomodation fees!!!We had mentioned to them , if they dare to forfeited and at first never said we cant 4 ppls in a room then we will report police.Beside , her attitude is forcing us and talk to us really no manners at all.Somemore we got the receipt of paying 3 nights accomodation. Its totally a scam , becareful of this hotel!!

The next day , my other 2 fren is forcing to find another hotel to stay and almost other hotel is fully booking. That last day , just we 2 person in a room. Can you imagine when 12pm , they really want us to check out. The Staff is knocked 1 time and straight away use key to open our door and ask us to leave. Can you imagine open your door without any informing... Frighten us!!!

The staff at last request my another friend passport to register again and at last they let us to stay for last night! How is their service !!! We are their customers ... how can we been treaten like that , is that we are foreigner?Singaporean is looked down Malaysian? The last night we back around 1am+ .. the lady keep irratating to call us to lobby because need to show the key to them to see then we can go up. Are we going to jail?

Can you imagine staying in HOTEL81 for 3 nite.First nite the fire alarm beep every 5 dec , put us to the next door of the fire alarm. Once we swich put us to the near roadside room. Second night 12am+ , called our room phone and knocked our door , either force my friend left the hotel now or check in another room. Is Late Night!!! The last day , open our room without informed , use their key to open although we are still inside and mentioned our room is been forfeited!!!!

Every day also had thing happen , do you dare to go in this hotel again. Bad impression to Singapore and this is my first trip!

I was so much happy to access to Hotel81 very easy by SMRT's northeast Line and getting off at China Town station's exit E. Furthermore, you can find lots of food & beverages around the hotel such as Maxwell, China Town food street, or the stores at underground of People's park building - it's so cheap & pleasant.
For sight seeing, it's many tourist attractions : for example; Buddha Relic Tooth temple or Sri Mariamman temple. In addtional, you can get the Clarke Quay by walking.
Regarding safety & transpotation, the hotel is centrally located in the safest area & trasportation hub where you are able to travel easily.
Hotel staff aspect, I would say that they were very kind personality, you can get the useful information from them then they can be defied as helpful staff.
So far, I am very satisfy my trip, the hotel, and this country every much. If you wanna tralvel alone I recommend you to try as I have done. Good luck & have a pleasant trip in Singapore la' ^_^

Room and bathroom was basic as expected while the location was excellent for the MRT and accessing Chinatown. On the 2nd day, a flying cockroach was in the lift so we decided to take the stairs down as it was only 2-3 flights but the door was blocked by a indian couple wearing staff uniform sitting on the stairs touching/snuggling/kissing. After this second shock we finally found a way to exit via the outside "fire escape" stairs. When we asked if we could check-out earlier and cancel the final night we were told "we did not have a valid reason" so we left early and could not get a refund for paying the last night in advance.

Overall a traumatic experience, I hope no one else will have to go through.
