The Scarlet Singapore, Singapore's first luxury boutique hotel, has made a bold statement, both locally and internationally, by preserving and combining the architectural styles of Singapore heritage buildings with a striking, audacious concept. Vivacious and uninhibited, the interiors of this 80-room hotel pulsate with an eclectic tension, offering all who enter an adventure for the senses. Using signature red and combining it with opulent gold and sophisticated black, the hotel decor's provocative style is followed through in the rooms including 5 individually-themed suites, each with a tantalizing name - Splendour, Passion, Opulent, Lavish and Swank.

Hotel's Favourite
So I was interested to see hw this hotel would be. In a historical Building, it has a setting that reminds you of Asia in the 60's. Until you get inside, then it feels like you were transported to an Agatha Christie Novel set in the Orient. You feel the ambience as you go. Now for more practical. The rooms are nice, they are each unique. Nice comfy bed with some firmness, free refillable minibar. But what makes this place even better, is the staff, Unbelievably friendly, helpful and went way beyond to help me out when I needed a place to do some recording with a friend. Offered up suggestions and help, even when not asked, and even the regular cleaning staff were very friendly and outgoing, which is a bit unusual from most who say hi and bow their heads. I moved to this hotel from Sentosa Hard Rock, where I was for a convention, but in the future I will always stay here. Its also super close to Chinatown, which is so convenient for me. Hearty 2 Thumbs Up

Dear MJMBUSLAW The Scarlet would be the perfect setting for the novels of Agatha Christie .... we can imagine Hercule Poirot having his drinks at the upcoming Lounge of our hotel, while Miss Marple accommodated in one of our themed Suites! We are proud to have a team that embraces genuine hospitality. The Scarlet have also initiated some works to restore herself to ensure that our guests will continue to enjoy the enhanced experience that is so unique to the hotel. Reach out to us on your next visit; we'll prepare a nice surprise for you. Looking forward to finishing 'The Mysterious Affairs at Styles' this weekend ...... Overall
Perfect place if you’re keen to explore Chinatown and have a different kind of experience than usual big chain of hotels like Bonvoy Marriott or Hilton.
*Wonderful staff who’s willing to go an extra mile to make your stay comfortable.
Check in
Very helpful staff Marcelle assisted me on this. Simple and quick. She will usher you to your room while carrying your luggage bags.
Room
We have the room with a window on second floor. The room smelled like it hasn’t been aired out for a while so we left the window opened for a bit. The room was clean. There’s a safe in the room. The room is small but it is great as we are out most of the time.
Bathroom
Tiny but it does its job. The drainage is slow but again - this is a very old building which is understandable if the piping system is not the greatest.
Pros:
Wonderful staff (they are the reason I’ll return to Scarlet again!) - very efficient and friendly. Thank you for that!
Modern decor and clean rooms
Cute boutique strategically located in Chinatown
Maxwell food court is literally across the street
7 eleven is down the road
Very close to Chinatown Complex, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and etc (within 5 mins walk)
MRT station is about 7-10 mins walking distance
Cons:
Lots of walking to hotel/room
*Please bear in mind that this place has a steep walkway too.
Aircon doesn’t function that well.
Room Tips:
Get a room with a window so you’ll be able to get some fresh air to your room.
Request for room closer to the lobby if you’ve difficulty to walk
Not ideal if you’re claustrophobic (the walkway is a little dark and narrow)

The staff and concierge are superb (Leslie and Rose are wonderful). My family and I arrived early and they accommodated us by allowing us to keep our luggage in the room that was ready. They also served us drinks, showed us to our room, and gave us helpful tips about the surrounding area. The hotel is clean, great wifi, and has a beautiful vintage and classy look, with gorgeous chandeliers, mirrors, and antique furniture. The location is excellent - one block from Chinatown and across from a great food court with tons of authentic food options (the Maxwell Food Center); not only do locals eat there, but you can share tables and talk with people about Singapore. Overall, my party and I were very pleased and impressed with this gem of a hotel.

Dear terrendaw2017 Gracious greetings from The Scarlet. Thank you so much for your gracious review and we are honored to be rated "a hidden gem in a great location". We greatly appreciate your kind mention of Leslie and Rozie, and we are so delighted to have these wonderful employees with us. Once an enclave for Singapore’s Chinese immigrant population, the Chinatown of today is much-beloved for its blend of old and new, with historic temples and traditional medicinal halls sitting alongside bold new bars and trendy lifestyle shops. We loved having you with us and greatly look forward to the pleasure of your return. Graciously yours Fong Kah Seng

Whoever had the idea of converting this former street of derelict Chinatown ‘shophouses’ into a hotel did a great job. You can feel some of the history of the area in this property and it has close proximity to the centre of Chinatown and the excellent Chinatown Heritage Museum.
We asked for a room upgrade at this hotel because we had been warned that some rooms don’t have windows. However the ‘Executive’ room that we ended up in was extremely cramped and the décor looked tired. There was no room to store our suitcases to the extent that we had to climb over them every time we got in and out of bed.
Clearly, they accommodate very small executives in this hotel.
The hotel is opposite a food market and construction site. Consequently, there is noise as every room faces onto this site, with commercial vehicles coming and going during the night. The hotel know this and provide ear plugs, however we would not expect to have to wear ear plugs all night in a hotel with rooms charged at $250.00 per night and up.
The roof terrace restaurant is basic, was half closed when we went to check it and has a view of construction sites and roof tops. Not very inspiring really.
The worst transgression however was the room service, or lack of it.
On New Years Eve we left the room at 09:00, came back briefly to find the room had not been made up at about 17:00, pointed this out to room service, and then came back in at 00:30 on New Year’s Day to find it still hadn’t been cleaned.
The hotel made a compensatory payment in the end, but we expected a lot better than this.

Dear D217VUchrism Gracious greetings from The Scarlet. Thank you for sharing your comments as your valued feedback is essential in our continuous efforts to improve our service standards. We are disappointed that your recent stay was not up to expectations and we would like to extend our sincere apologies to you. A mix of old and new, our guest rooms were converted from a row of 1868 shophouses and a vintage 1924 Art Deco building. The Executive Rooms have room shapes and layouts that vary. A high number of Executive Room guests do prefer the hive of activities along Erskine Street. We do have rooms that offer guests the tranquility of peace and quiet too. Your feedback for improvement has been shared with the housekeeping team and corrective actions have been taken. We do take all feedback to heart and we use them in our genuine efforts to provide better guest service. Please do let me know when you plan your next visit to The Scarlet and I will personally ensure your future stay will be a satisfying experience. Graciously yours Fong Kah Seng

We stayed at this hotel as we spend our anniversary.
We are greeted when we checked in with a glass of ice cold tropical juice. After the check in, we are escorted to our room.
The room is small but comfy. The room we got has a stand in shower and no bathtub. It has a king size bed and a window. There was some issues with our power but was rectified immediately.
Staff were very friendly and attentive. Kudos to Rozie and Benson who both helped us and gave us places to go to shop and best places to eat. Since Benson is clocking out, he even showed us the way to one of the Kaya Toast place famous in Singapore on his way home. He also showed us one.of the building where there are some displays of old traditions of Singapore during the 19th century.
Rosie and Benson is an asset to the hotel.
Also, if your flight is late, you can have the hotel hold your luggage and pick it up at a later time. They even have a shower room for a customer to shower and freshen up before picking up their luggage and heading to the airport.
We will definitely stay again at this place next time we are in Singapore.

We stayed at The Scarlet over NYE and had a pleasant experience. The concept is fantastic: an entire row of heritage terrace houses refurbished and converted into a hotel. The room was on the small side, and though the check in staff was kind enough to accommodate our request for a window, there really wasn’t much of a view to speak of...also, the rogue green light emanating from the smoke alarm was bright enough to be a distraction through the night - but at this price, we couldn’t really fault the place. It does have a real charm, from the lavish lobby to the unbeatable Chinatown location, adjacent to Maxwell Hawker Centre and Club Street, which more than compensated for the blips.

I truly appreciated the hotel quality and the dedication of the design, not sure how other room is actually looks like but for my executive with balcony is very comfortable and well design. The tolietries and amenities like coffee and tea is truly a plus point, just like the hotel design itself the coffee and tea is really good quality and i may say high end that is why would you even go out your hotel room to have a good coffee or rather instead having it inside? The answer is indoor stay with their coffee is great! The tolietries is even the best! They served a great enough big size travelling body foam and a big travel size tooth tube from compare to normal or high end hotel in singapore, if i would have choose to come back in future i will choose here! They have great services as well, the staff are warm, friendly and is guide by a great management team. Will visit here in future if a short or long stay require. Lastly i cannot praise how well everything in hotel provided is, from fridge to water kettle and their cup and bed, towel just everything i have no words to describe it situated in chinatown such a small squeezy area in singapore this little dot but the hotel run really well, and everything thing you need is here and is also very good decorated, it is really hard to get a decent big room in chinatown area why for go and check in to other hotel when this hotel serve the best privacy and respect to every in house guest? Surely Recommend, check in is efficient and the team and management is fast and attentive to your needs. If you book around here, it is just nearby one of the attraction to local tourist visting area and all good restaurant and good food near by here. Check this great experience over here, even it is for quarantine, you will also find a great stay at here without the chance to roam around but bet you will not be uncomfortable. Have attached my room picture to show you how great their design is, and how comfort the deliver the services, excellent!

When I booked in March , I became aware that the 5 days I needed to stay in Singapore was durng F1 week which explained the high hotel rates even 6 months out, and the limited availability. At the time of booking, all that was available was an interior room (without window). On arrival, I was very happy to be allocated a room with a very small balcony and windows.
Pros:
* Location is in Chatatown, directly opposite the new Maxwell MRT
* Within short walking distance to Maxwell, Amoy & Chinatown Food Centres, and within 5 minutes of Amoy Street where there are many restaurants (should you tire of food centres)
* Hotel room has a small refidgerator with free beverages (soft drinks, Coconut water, and Tiger beers), These are topped up daily as are te chocolate bars and packets of snacks.
* Free drink voucher at the roof top bar, one per person on arrival.
* Helpful, friendly staff
* Free daily water top up
* Check out is at 12 pm
* 2 key cards supplied
Cons
* House keeping staff may be new as they removed the face cloths and I had to request some more then the next day this was repeated and I had to request toilet paper also and the telephone didn't work (I know first world problems!)
* Wifi requires logging in each time, this was very annoying
* Decor is dated and the 'boudoir' look/feel of the place doesn't suit the building style (which is refurbished Chinatown shop houses. Some elements I thought were downright tacky (chrystals hanging off (the huge bunch of fake flowers behind reception).
* The room was quite small, (it would have been fine for one person).
* No bedside table on one side of the bed, items had to be put on the floor.
Would I stay again, possibly but I would probably try to book elsewhere due to the decor and size of room. Glad I stayed in this location and in future would look to stay in this location again in Singapore

It was a comfortable stay. Although I booked last minute through a third party site, when I called to check the reservations if it is confirmed the staff is a bit unsure of what to do because it will take a while for the booking to sync with their system. Whilst, when I arrived the receptionist is friendly, she actually thought I’m kind of mystery shopper (random quality checks for hotels) as she knew I’m a hotelier too. So far, I have a great stay. The hotel theme is vintage, theatrical and stylish. The bed and pillow is very comfty, their TV has apps like Netflix, browsers and etc. The room has complete amenities too (bathrobes, slippers, hair dryer, toothbrush & etc.) As the ones I booked comes with bathtub, there is actually seasalt scrub provided as well. Oh! One thing I noticed is there is Holy Bible placed in one of the bedside drawers too! Quite unusual for hotels but interesting twist. All in all, it was a short comfortable stay and another hotel experience in Singapore!

A very good hotel with nice clean and functional rooms and a nice atmosphere. The staff is very helpful and service-minded. It's conveniently located in a quiet area with only a few minutes walk to public transportation in Chinatown or just a few hundred meters in the other direction from the hotel so you have the whole city nearby.
If you just want a quick budget meal there is a food court just around the corner and you have a lot of Chinese restaurants to choose from in Chinatown walking street that agents to the hotel street, otherwise there is plenty of all kinds of good restaurants nearby.

Hi Inor
Our apology for missing this out.
We actually place a topper over our beds to make it softer. You will be pleased to know that it does not contain real feathers.
Regards
The Scarlet Team
Wasn’t an issue as it was to cover ant additional expenses incurred there - mostly mini bar tabs etc.
The hotel has a lift for you and the showers are not the large. May I suggest you contact The Scarlet directly by email about whether your stool would fit for your shower needs. Good luck
