This hotel is A 10min walk from Newton MRT. Quiet suburb. 7 Eleven store around the corner for alcohol/snacks etc. Rooms are quite dated especially the bathrooms. Beds are firm. Light breakfast was fine. Not a huge smorgasbord but suited us. Nice pool that the kids enjoyed after a day out. Helpful staff.

I have stayed at the VIP a few times now. Overall not too bad but the Executive rooms are certainly the best choice. The standard rooms are large but I found the bedding a bit average. The executive room comes with comfortable bed and doona, very comfy.

A well priced hotel on the city fringe, around $7 in a taxi to Orchard Rd. Some hours taxi's are very hard to get (they are called from reception) and one morning found myself waiting 40 min for a taxi, but this is obviously not the hotel fault. It is a basic hotel with room service only at evening dinner time but a short walk is a Subway and a nice Italian restaurant. Certainly not enough TV channels as I found myself stuck in the room on a few occasions due to the heavy rain some days. Staff were friendly and accommodating and breakfast was basic but nice.

Overall a good budget hotel with friendly service.

Reading these recent reviews, I wondered if I stayed at the same hotel as them! It's in a quiet but easily accessible residential area away from CBD & Orchard Road.

Room 107 ground floor: massive size. 2 x double beds for 2 pax. Air con woorked very effectively. Room was clean, modern. Vanity shelf, drawers, hairdryer, 2 x armchairs. Loads of floor space for up to 2 x single beds at a push. No wardrobe, but we only had 1 night & nothing to hang up. Safe was simple to use, would take laptops, cameras, travel docs with much spare room.

Bathroom - again, massive & modern. Clean, light. Towels clean, soft & dried us well. Shampoo, body wash & liquid hand soaps provided. Also shower caps & tooth brushes (none used by us).

Breakfast - not extensive, but varied & more than enough for us. Ladies cooked eggs to order.

Check in - we were greeted by name & our keys were ready when we arrived @ 6pm. Passports copied, document signed. Breakfast room & times advised.

Check out - handed over keys, cheerful goodbyes.

Location - just a few minutes walk to Balmoral Plaza for rather expensive bars & local shops. Newton MRT was easy to get to in less than 10 minutes on the flat. Newton Circus food court just a little further on (we used MRT station & footbridge to cross the busy roads).

Great value hotel - certainly worth planning a stay as its lower price certainly outweighed a few additional SG$ on MRT fares. Would stay again if the need was there.

We didn't use the pool, but our friends who we met there did & they said it was a good depth & temperature for a cool down.

There is a shuttle bus (freebie) but we didn't use it. If we did want it, we were asked to give 30 minutes notice. That was acceptable to us.

No negatives for this stay.

Stayed in the 3rd floor and all was well just that all is ol school. Carpark is free. We book for swimming at 4pm and kids speaks louder and playful. The pool has echo and the sound will be louder. We was approach by the staff to lower volume which is in unprofessional way. The pool has echo you cant blame and also we have kids how to control? Smokers can smoke outside so not very family friendly. Will never return.✌

Do not stay here! we were woken every morning (5.30am) by staff sitting outside our room chatting, listening to music and smoking. Apparently it is the standard meeting area (room 114). Complained to the front desk, but the lack of english as well as the zero care factor meant it happened every morning. Not a great wake up on a holiday. As well as having staff members knock on the hotel room door asking if we would sell them cigarettes (do not smoke so hadnt seen me wandering around with one in hand, just trying their luck), as well as a knock on the door one night by a group of men, (door remained shut as there is no way I would open it and see what they wanted). Even asking the receptionist to book a restaurant was too difficult for them. We had given her the restaurant number, time we wanted etc, but she said no as that restaurant wasnt in their system so she couldnt charge us for a phone call to them.... thanks for the help.
They have a free shuttle to ION.... the one redeeming factor. although make sure you give plenty of warning you will want it as the driver is usually out and about on his personal errands.

Whilst travelling from the UK to NZ we used this hotel for a 2 day stopover. We didn't want anything to fancy so this looked just up our street. We arrived from the UK at 0730am and got a taxi straight to the hotel. We expected to leave our bags in reception and return at checking in time. This would have been tough as we have a 5 and 3 year old boys. However when I approached the reception about checking in the receptionist could not do enough for us. She sorted out a room for us and allowed us to check in by 0930am. This was for no extra charge. Whilst we have been here the staff have all been excellent and very friendly.

Room
Nice and spacious with 2 king size beds. Clean and comfortable. Bathroom is clean and has strong hot shower and good toilet facilities.

Internet
Wi-fi is free and excellent quality

Food
We did not eat at the hotel purely as we wanted to go out and about.
If you come out of the hotel turn left then right on the main and right again you will find several eating establishments. They range from an awesome pizza restaurant to a UK fish and chip shop and some local foods.

Pool
My boys love this pool. Very clean and great size. We appear to be the only family who use it most of the time. Great fun

Location
You can't walk to most places purely due to the Singapore pedestrian access. They seem to be much more vehicle orientated. However it's about 20 mins in a taxi to Singapore Zoo ($15) or a free shuttle to the botanical gardens from the hotel. Public transport is good and it's about 15 mins walk to the metro.

Verdict
If you are a normal family (person) who lives in a normal house and is not expecting the ritz for the price you pay you won't be disappointed. If you think every hotel should be like the ritz but you only want to pay the minimum this is not for you. Clean, tidy and great staff.

Also
Our youngest had a bed accident during the night. No problem to the staff who changed everything the next morning, again no trouble and no cost.

Thanks

This hotel was a disappointment. It looks nice at first when you walk in but then the cracks begin to show. Our room was small and dark but OK, however, my mother's room had a damp stench and had not been cleaned properly.
Apart from one of the elder female staff, the staff were not helpful at all. We asked them to do something about the smell and they said they would but did nothing. When my room was cleaned the cleaners failed to put toilet roll even though it had run out. I asked the receptionist to have some sent up but it never came.
Upon arrival at breakfast we were turned away because the area was packed out by scores of children who were staying at the hotel whilst on a study trip. This is simply unacceptable.
Breakfast was a disappointment; it was unappetising with very little variety.
I don't expect luxury and amazing value for money this close to the centre of an expensive city but this place needs to master the basics of hospitality.

It was so bad that we had to ask to leave after the first day but they said they cant refund us and we had to email agoda when we got back! that was £700 down the drain.

Rooms were very dirty and NOT worth the price we paid.

Ended up getting apartments nearby for a much better stay.

1) Dont go here
2) if you do, dont book through agoda

We chose this hotel because it was the only one we could find that had a family room with four proper beds without having to squeeze in extra foldaway beds, sofa beds, futons, etc. Very glad we did. The hotel is small and in a quiet part of the city but still close to the centre. Our room was a bit dated but was comfortable and clean, the pool was great and a full breakfast was included. Taxi drivers all knew it well, which is helpful particularly when you're staying at a smaller hotel. The staff were very helpful and were genuinely friendly. Would happily stay here again.

booked for 3 nights 14th-17th June 2018, fully paid for quadruple room, for me, my mum, brother and daughter.

upon arrival we were asked to present our passports, despite my asking that my 76 yr old mum’s passport will be given later as she is sitting in the car and I will get it after we have gotten our room and carried out luggage, the chinese lade would not hear of it.so I went to the car to get mum’s passport.

upon getting our room key, my brother and i went back and forth carrying our luggage (it was Raya) and once done we went to get mum and my niece.

then we got a call from reception, saying we have 11 people in the room and must pay for the extra. ELEVEN people, mind you!! so i challenged the lady to come immediately to the room which was literally across the reception, she arrived, looked in, i asked her to look around and show me this 11 pax.

the old, worn out hotel room would not even have the space, with 4 beds, to get 8 people in let alone 11. when i asked her who told her o got as many people and where would I have hidden them - she just brushed off and said her reception saw we had that many people going into our room.

the only conclusion is - either that place is haunted and so they saw so many ghosts walking into the room, or, as I told them - theu are just freakin racists assuming that just because we are Malays we are out there trying to cheat them, getting the whole of Malaysia into that shoddy hotel for 3 nights.

suffice to say, we left, i demanded for full refund of my money and took two rooms for 3 nights at Village Hotel, Bugis. which was a 5 star treatment and experience compared to the racists of VIP Hotel. And the rooms at Village Hotel are fantastic for just about the same price as the racists run hotel.

and yes I say racists as before my turn at the counter a couple of Europeans were tended to and my, short of kow tow bow wow.

I didn't need credit card but had already pre-paid. They didn't even want to see my booking confirmation. They just took coph og my passport. That was it at reception for me.
