I have been staycation at Gateway Hotel for few times. This hotel makes me a great weekend and I’m glad that I chose this hotel to celebrate my birthday with my boyfriend. This is one of the three Marco Polo hotels attached to the Harbour City in TST. It is the centre property at the Gateway Arcade section of the mall. We stayed at Gateway Hotel for a long weekend recently and found it to be a decent property in this area of the city. Reservations were made through booking.com. Confirmation of booking was received immediately. Check-in was done expeditiously, they have luggage hold facility at the hotel check-in desk if needed. Service at the front desk was a bit stiff during our stay and floors were only cleaned once a day. There was trash piling up at the lift bins each day, not very appealing but something they can easily sort out with more cleaning staff or shifts. Lobby is very basic with a seating/waiting area near the check-in desk. They have a couple of feature restaurants and bars and gym facilities as well. There are endless restaurants, coffee shops and bars in the area. You are 5 minute walk to the Star Ferry and harbour and there is retail shopping in all directions. Rooms are spacious and functional, a good option if you simply need a relatively comfortable place to hold your luggage and to catch some sleep while spending the majority of your time elsewhere around the city for business of sightseeing purposes. Bed is ok, medium soft, affording decent sleep. Furnishing is starting to feel a bit dated, fair condition and quality but nothing fancy. Bathroom is sufficient, shower worked perfectly. In the end, Gateway is a decent property. There are much nicer properties with better rooms in TST but you usually have to pay higher rates for these places. As such, for the room rates, Gateway is a functional place that most will find sufficient for purpose.

Let’s start from room viewing~ Raymond the Sales Manager took me viewing rooms a month ago~ Raymond was very helpful and showed me different types of room patiently~ Love the contemporary design and I moved in couple days after~ Leaded by Allan~ all concierge staff are beyond my expectation~ Another hotel chauffeur picked me up and when I arrived at the hotel the first day~ Concierge staff arrived almost at the same time and greeted me and assisted me for check in~ Since I have been waiting for my flight due to the current situation~ I have stayed here for a month already~ however~ the longer I stay~ the more I noticed all the staff are not only friendly~ helpful but also attention to details~ Micheal the Duty Manager~ Allan~ Lok~ and lots of familiar faces~ Special thanks to housekeeping Elaine~ Words can’t express my deepest gratitude to all the staff in this hotel~ 🙏🏻🙏🏽🙏🏿 A BIG THANK YOU!!! We reserved a room for daycation to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Guest Relations Supervisor - Wing and Guest Relations Manager - Cecilia recognised our purpose of stay and arrange a nice room and do recommendation in a nice place for dinner and take photos. The entire check in process is smooth and efficient. We like their natural approach and made us feel comfortable & their hospitality. Both of them are great asset in the hotel. Room is spacious, modern design, clean and tidy. We love the purple theme in room. We definitely recommend Gateway to our friends and family.

Room is not clean enough after check in. I saw hair on the toilet pan. Much beard on the top of hair dryer. Dust covered the toilet exhaust fan.But the room is big and very convenient for shopping. The sevice is perfect.

The most unpleasant experience I ever had. I booked the package with guaranteed late check out to 4PM but the next day I got a phone from reception Ms. Christina at 12:20 asking me to check out. The hotel staff not willing to listen to customer’s explanation as they will use they own standards to explain their T&C. Even then they admit the T&C brings confusion to customers and they would not apologize until customer’s request.

Everything was good so far, except there is no ViuTV & TVB in the room. I'm pretty impressed with the housekeeper, and sorry I forgot her name. She was helpful and even tidied up my items in the washroom in order, like 5 star standard in the other hotel. Again, Roy, as usual very gentle and checked with us during the stay to rest assured we enjoyed the room. Check-in was very smooth too! Thank you for the team!

1. First room given to us have a serious smoking smell as soon as I opened the door. went to the front desk and tell the staff the room is filled with smoking smell. After she checked on the computer for 1-2mins, she told us that the whole hotel has no same grade room with the same bedding configuration, if I want to change the room, that's the only option for me. Her attitude is like "you either take it or leave it", she didn't even try to work out a solution. I know the package I paid for is rather a bargain considering the perks I was given, but is that how I should be treated by the staff? I was left standing in the lobby until I approached the concierge desk and found the Duty Manager, who I interrupted his chit-chat with his fellow staff member, was kind enough to help me with arranging a new room for me. This is a WHOLE NEW experience for me!! 2. Second day morning buffet breakfast was OK, but the waiting staff can be a bit more proactive in the cleaning up. I arrive at the restaurant at around 9am, there's only about 3-4 table with guest seating in. I was given the seat next to the window, which is fabulous. The food is acceptable given the price I've paid for. But the staff seems too busy with setting up for lunch or other things, my plate was emptied and left on the table while I go out for another round of food, after about 10-15mins when I come back to the table, the plate is still on the table while I witness her cleaning up other table's plate and never returned. This is not what I would expect from a high-end hotel. All in all, the room is comfy enough to relax and the bed is super comfy. Just don't hold any expectations, then you won't be disappointed.
