This is a brilliant concept hotel in much need of some tender loving care. The location is beautiful, with multiple villas spread throughout a valley with private access to the Great Wall. The architecture is fantastic, but apart from the main lobby, restaurant and spa building, the rest is poorly maintained, with peeling paint and parts falling off. However, inside...

I stayed at the Commune by the Great Wall for one night and I need to agree with many of the previous comments and ratings. It is really really hard to review. The food was awful. I ordered soup and desert from the Western menu (terrible) and the breakfast was really lousy. Lots of choices but like the whole hotel...

We visited the Commune for a weekend trip from Beijing, attracted by the unique architecture and the opportunity to have a private access to the Great Wall. The design of the distributed buildings and the whole setting in the mountains is absolutely perfect and impressive. Each house has been designed by a different architect and has its own character. Yes,...

I have no idea how some people could leave some of the less-than-favorable reviews I see below. As someone with high expectations for hotels (only stay at 4-5 star US ratings like Ritz, Four Seasons, Renaissance, etc), this hotel is fantastic. I saw the mixed reviews on here and booked it anyway, unsure of what to expect- but after staying...

As this hotel is almost right next to the badaling great wall, it has got a good view of it and is very much accessible from other major attractions around. For the hotel service I would say it's fine a it's very difficult to find a big hotel as such in this place.

The commune is a very special and unusual hotel located near badaling (the Great Wall main touristy site) When entering the hotel grounds it felt like we were in a James Bond film, the different hotel houses are very modern and beautifully contrast but also in contradiction blend in with their natural surrounding thanks to the choice of colours and...

As other reviews have highlighted, it is quite difficult to write a concise, negative or positive overview of commune by the Great Wall. The experience is mixed and expectation difficult to manage. The below is a summary of my visit: Myself and my partner arrived at the Commune late afternoon having flown into Beijing from Guilin. The first thing to...

This is a hard hotel to review and one of the strangest places I've stayed. It certainly wasn't a five star or luxury experience, arrived in the evening and wasn't offered any help with bags through the front door. Front desk staff didn't offer much emotion. After check-in we were driven to the closest villa, within each villa are multiple...

I stayed here 1 night 2 days as part of a company workshop/retreat. The rooms were comfortable the food was nice. But the biggest drawcard is the short 10-15 minute walk to the great wall. It snowed overnight and we were greeted with the most amazing sights. Fantastic place to base yourself before exploring the wall.

I took my two kids (7&4) and my parents here for one night. It was really beautiful hotel with mountains and trees and Great Wall around it. It was fun to climb up the Great Wall. The service from reception and restaurant were not bad. The supervisor of house keeping was very rude though. We stayed in a three bedrooms...
