This is a small frindly, personable, beautiful and very affordable hotel 5 minute walk from the metro, 10 from the entrance to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen square. The staff (Jaqueline and Maya during our stay) were extremely helpful and assisted with every request. Staying in the middle of low season (December) we paid approx $40/room (for 2 people) per... I stayed here for 4 nights in April with my husband and two children (ages 7 and 10). The two main reasons why we selected this hotel were 1) its location, and 2) the traditional courtyard design. First, the location is excellent--easy walking distance to Tienanmen Square and the Forbidden City, as well as Wangfujing Street and the Night Market.... More

Excellent location. The rooms are fairly basic, as is the bathroom, chinese shower with no shower tray. The bed was big and very confortable. They offer a western berakfast (bacon & eggs, at a good price, but we preferred to get breakfast on a street, buying fresh yogurt in clay pots from the local shops. Staff were friendly with sufficient... More

I stayed at this hotel over Christmas of 2009. I wanted to stay in a "courtyard hotel" but found that most were a bit north of the Forbidden City (in a cool area in its own right). Having been to Beijing once before I realized that it might be nice to be a bit more closer / within walking distance... More

We stayed here for 8 nights, the only problem we had was the bathroom, no shower curtain, so you have to be very careful, not to make the bathroom flooded when you shower. Safe and quiet neighborhood. Only 10 minutes walk to Tiananmen Square and the subway, 15 minutes walk to Wangfujing, we enjoyed walking in the city a lot,... More

The actual name of the hotel is the Tiananmen Yier Commercial Hotel. I’m not sure why it is listed as “Best Year” on this site. I stayed there from for 3 nights at the end of November. It is a small little quaint courtyard style hotel and the experience was just like staying at an uncle’s home – homely, friendly,... More

Having stayed at a plush hotel in the previous Chengdu leg of my China tour, I chose to stay in a more basic and traditional hotel in Beijing, and the Tiananmen Best Year Courtyard was just what I wanted. Although the hotel is only 5 minutes walk from Tiananmen Square, it is not easy to find, and had my tour... More
