I spent there one night end of September after my trip to Tsavo East and Taita Hills before going back to Lamu. The Creek view rooms are big with nice views. Food was average but it's nice having dinner at the pool restaurant close to the creek although the management should do something about beach girls looking for company at the pool restaurant. Location wise it's close to famous Tamarind Restaurant and 5 minutes walking to the matatu stage for Malindi. All in all I enjoyed my stay and will come back if I need accommodation again in this part of Mombasa.

Hotel's Favourite
A quiet and comfortable hotel. I enjoyed the swimming pool very much. There is a pool bar which, unfortunately, ran out of ice so I restricted myself to one cocktail only. Staff was friendly. A good breakfast with a lot of choice of Western as well as African food. They also have a small gym downstairs, although you need to pick a key from the reception to enter. There is a safe in the room, which was very handy, as I traveled on my own and did not want to carry my money or valuables with me. The room was huge! And I enjoyed the view from the balcony. The area is a bit tricky. There is a big street market just round the corner but no restaurants within a walking distance as such. I have visited the Rockwall restaurant on my first evening, which is a 20-minute walk and it seems to be the nearest place. Otherwise, a taxi or a tuk-tuk is needed to venture further out (which is not a problem, there were always plenty of tuk-tuks to flag down and it's 15 minutes to Mombasa town centre). The hotel itself has a restaurant, I had my dinner there one evening and it was OK as well. The drain in the bathroom was blocked and the air conditioning was very noisy. Make sure you check your hot water before you accept the room.

The hotel looks beautiful from the outside i.e. The view of the pool to the beach. if only they could invest in maintenance of the property to avoid the inside of the rooms looking old and rusty especially the bathrooms. The staff were very friendly and always willing to assist. The car park and the security was a plus.

We stayed here 2 nights. The photos on Booking.com looked great, but in reality it is much more dated and unloved. The receptionist was pleasant and we checked in quickly. Our room was an ok size and had air con. The bedding was old and bobbly and the pillows were awfully uncomfortable. The mattress itself was ok to sleep on. We only had one tea cup in the room so had to request another and both of the water glasses in the room were filthy so we had to get them swapped out. Our safe didn’t work when we arrived and the door to the balcony didn’t lock either. I reported them and they were both fixed relatively quickly, (the man took 35 mins to arrive to do it). The en suite had a really bad smell, and the taps looked like they had toothpaste on them so I got an antiseptic wipe out and tried to clean it but it looked like it was actually drops of bathroom sealant. The loo seat was wonky so uncomfortable to sit on. All the furniture and fittings (in both the bathroom and bedroom) were just really worn, tired and scruffy. Breakfast was ok but limited. The fruit salad looked several day old and only half of the toaster worked. We asked for some black pepper to go with the salt but we were told they didn’t have any. The bar setting outside was ok but had limited stock. We asked for some dry white wine but they didn’t have any the first night and so we asked for them to get some for the next night - but they didn’t. We ordered 2x chicken burgers on the second evening - they took over an hour to arrive and when they did they were very dry. The hotel apparently used to be a Best Western hotel a few years ago before it became CityBlue, it doesn’t look like anything has been done to the place in years. It’s tired and unloved; it could be simply spruced up and it would make a massive difference. Eg. Someone should check the rooms before guests arrive for simple things like doors not locking, dirty glasses etc, and then they could be easily identified and fixed before any guests arrive. A hotel can still be budget whilst being clean and fresh - CityBlue was a let down. I think you will find better (but similarly priced) budget accommodation in Mombasa - I wouldn’t recommend CityBlue until they take a bit more care over it. Disappointing.

Not sure where to start, but what a ridiculous hotel. To start the place is so dirty, the food so awful you need to eat elsewhere. My fiancé & I had to share just one towel & no bath mat! They run out of juice & food at the buffet both mornings, the pool area is not bad however they run out of coke, beer & cider!! We requested to move to the water view rooms however they said they were fully booked, lol no chance they were booked out. We needed a late checkout however was denied on that as well They only give you one key for the 2 of us, so every time you leave the room the aircon would shut down & the rooms are so hot without aircon All in all it’s a below budget hotel & I wish we looked at the reviews before we booked.
