Absolutely loved the upper apartment with all the outdoor space. Can’t wait to go back. On the other hand, for selfish reasons, I don’t want everyone to know about it. Oh, and did I mention that the food was great? Doh!

After 3 weeks of travel in Africa, it was a delight to experience the slower pace of Subira House, Lamu Island, Kenya. Lamu Island is located a short motorboat ride from the airport. Thankfully, we both wore hats and comfortable shoes as it is quite a walk from the airport to

I have stayed in Subira house 3 times, if memory serves, with the most recent one being almost a week in 2018. The owners were on a visit elsewhere, but their staff is very well trained indeed, and I loved my stay. I have always stayed in the top floor space, which gives me

We went to Lamu at Christmas. We spent 5 days in Subira House and now we can’t stop remembering those awesome days. If for us arriving in Lamu was like discovering the paradise, I have no words to describe the feeling of discovering Subira House. Definitely it`s THE PLACE TO

Dear Marta, your experience from your stay at Subira makes us very happy! You know how we love Lamu very much and really we want to share our feeling with new coming visitors. We even met each others here Paul and I in 1975! There is so much to discover here, so many layers of living which is different from our western value system and habits. As we have a long history with this culture we like to show you these other ways that are enriching your life. Also you will realize that when you return back here you adopt easily to all this which takes ones energy on the first visit. The heat, the slow pace, the friendliness, the donkeys and carts in the very narrow streets, the morning calls, the lack of certain foods etc… There is much more to show; the project with building a huge dhow out of recycled plastic in the north of Lamu Town. It is expected to sail from Lamu to Cape Town next autoumn. You can visit the successful Spanish children s project Anidan with 150 orphaned children being cared for and a free super professional children's hospital. Nearby there is another interesting childrens project, a nursery school built by recycled wine bottles. All the Lamu festivals around the year. The Yoga Festival is growing tremendously. Greetings to Xavier! Christina and Paul Aarts
