Our first trip to Kenya, our first stop was Emakoko. So close to Nairobi city, but worlds away. We spotted both species of rhino on our first game drive, the staff are wonderful and our guide Samuel was so knowledgeable and helpful. We loved it so much we booked another night at the end of our trip.

We enjoyed our stay at Emakoko. We chose Emakoko for three reasons: we needed a couple of nights to recover from jet lag before starting our Kenya and Tanzania trip, we wanted to be close to (or inside) the Park (not in Nairobi), and we didn’t want to be near the flight path for JMO or Wilson airports. Emakoko provided all of this.

The drive from JMO takes about an hour. When we got to Emakoko (midnight) we were surprised to be greeted by the staff who provided us with a light meal and a glass of wine. The next morning we slept in, had a very good breakfast and explored the property. The Emakoko main building and villas overlook a valley and it’s not unusual to see assorted wildlife pass through. After lunch, we were driven through the Park (more animals than I thought there’d be!) to the Giraffe Centre (good for families/kids, otherwise take a pass) and then to the David Sheldrick Centre (absolutely wonderful!). We then returned to Emakoko where we had sundowners and a very nice dinner before retiring. The next morning we had breakfast and were driven to Wilson Airport (about 45 minutes).

In summary, if you are looking for a place inside the park, with good food and wonderful staff, you should consider Emakoko.

We only stayed one night, but it could not have been better. We had the house at the top of the hill with a pool. It was fantastic. The service was outstanding and the staff very attentive. The owner dropped by to make sure everything was ok. Nice touch. The Emakoko is in the middle of the park. They took us out and we saw 9 rhinos and lots of other animals. Also the food was very good. Next time we are in Nairobi, we will definitely stay here again and for more than one night. Keep up the good work!

We are so pleased you saw the Rhinos in the park, this is one of the best parks in Kenya to view Black Rhino. We are glad you enjoyed the Private house! Thank you, Anthony & Emma

This was our first stop on a two week honeymoon safari and it was a great intro to safari life. We arrived in Nairobi later in the evening so it was completely dark on our drive in so we couldn’t see much but what we could see of the lodge was beautiful. They had a light dinner for us even though it was quite late. It was totally worth the drive from the airport to stay at this remote destination. We only wish we had more time.

We stayed at The Emakoko for an anniversary celebration and have to commend the generic excellence put together by Emma, Anthony and their team.

In Nairobi but feels like the Mara with an air of tranquility and sense of wilderness throughout that is tempered by five star service, accommodation and cuisine.

The rooms are spacious in the extreme, superbly appointed and command stunning views across the park.

There is a reason why this is the first and last experience for so many visitors to Kenya, the only thing I find surprising is that anyone could possibly want to stay anywhere else!

The Emakoko will arrange to pick you up at the airport. Game drives are totally your call - you can go out for as long as you want, depending on how tired you might be after a long trip. You can ask for Sundowners - drinks... More
