We recently stayed here for a total of 4 nights. The common areas are lovely but the rooms are tire, in particular the mattresses and carpeting. Bathrooms need a good cleaning with mold in the showers and on the floors. Staff were very good, but the hotel needs an injection of cash and TLC.

- I travel a lot and rarely would rate a hotel as very good however the Shepheard is one. An excellent location, spacious, well kept and clean rooms, and the staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly. It is well managed and they are very consciences of their guest safety and security. Very reasonable priced for...

We stayed two nights at the beginning of July. Shepheard wasn't our first choice, but I'm so glad we ended up staying there. The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and clean, and despite a rather noisy air conditioner, very comfortable. The maintenance staff did try to repair the AC but it was a more difficult...

I stayed, on holiday here for 5 nights during the start of Ramadan at the end of July. The first impressions were good, and we had no complaints about the room - great view over the Nile, very clean, spacious and comfortable. The hotel certainly has character, despite the exterior resembling a big concrete block. The lobby is attractive without...

This is a good hotel to stay in Cairo, but forget your oriental dreams of travelling in the footsteps of Victorian explorers, or even Agathie Christie, at this place. Dreamers are often disappointed, or even shocked, at first by the prozaic exterior of the hotel (it's just a big concrete block, really..) or by the businesslike behaviour of staff and...

Check in was the first disappointment I am used to a smiling welcoming face in Cairo hotels but not here. I was not acknowledged by the single person manning check in whilst he dealt with requests from another guest about pyramids tours (concierge was manned??) made a couple of phone calls and generally shuffled papers. Another receptionist ambled in and...

Was pleasantly surprised by the elegance of this hotel. As soon as you walk in the lobby you have entered the world of British Egypt. The rooms are large, comfortable and well maintained. The restaurant is a must even if just for breakfast. Large windows overlook the Nile with its numerous boats. The breakfast buffet is extensive with both western and...
