A stunning gem of a Hanok (traditional korean home) guest house. The inn is managed by an artist and her sensibility shows in the design of the house, and in the small details –the jigsaw of beautiful patterned ceramics in the bathroom and the wide range of beautiful ceramics used to serve breakfast on. Our rooms were utterly beautiful and...

An authentic and very well kept hanok in Bukchon ---- an escape to live in a traditional Korean house. We had our own room separate from the house, yet enjoyed breakfast in the main house and other open areas within the courtyard of this wonderful gem. Arriving after a day of walking and exploring, we had our "enclave" of privacy...

This is a luxury Hanok in the Bukchon Village. It only has 4 rooms & we took the smallest. You get to enjoy the comforts of modern living but in a traditional setting. Breakfast was of traditional Korean type. It was excellent in taste & presentation and was also very filling. The caretaker was very pleasant and thought of our...

Staying in Samcheongdong / Bukchon

Neighbourhood Profile
Samcheongdong / Bukchon
This historic neighbourhood was traditionally home to Seoul’s middle and upper-classes. Now it’s most famed for its clusters of beautiful, traditional Korean homes (called hanok), many of which are found in Bukchon. Many of these homes have now been converted into restaurants, cafes, shops, and even guesthouses, and their unique architecture offers a look at Korea’s traditional beauty. Samcheongdong’s main and side streets attract locals and tourists alike for their quaint and charming scenery, while the Blue House (Cheong Wa Dae) serves as the residence for South Korea’s president. Art fans will love exploring the many independent and private art galleries in the area.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Bukchon, a northern village where you can explore the culture and the history of Korea, possesses the beauty of Korean tradition as though time had stopped floating. Chiwoonjung, located in Bukchon, is a boutique hotel with Korean traditional housing style that is well-blended into the surrounding nature in which the guests can enjoy the traditional culture and observe the decorum of Korea. The King always had paid a visit to Chiwoonjung when he steps out of the palace during the Chosun Dynasty (1392 ~ 1910), and for nearly 600 years, many influential families and artists would share their collective visions and express their ideas and thoughts. What is more, Chiwoonjung used to be a private mansion for the former president, and many celebrities from all over the world have visited here. ... more   less
