A first time to stay at a traditional Hanok guesthouse. Personally, I find it a nice experience to try. The owner Mr. Lee was very nice and friendly. The room was very tiny it says for four people even though we were three we barely could fit. the bathroom was large. the breakfast was simple. The place was not tidy....

We got an airport taxi from the airport because the map seemed complicated and we had a bit of luggage. Near Nakwon market, the taxi dropped us to the alley leading to the house. Just straight the alley and turn right we found the facade of the house. Our first time to stay in a hanok and while it is...

first stay here was in 2013, and been back here every time i visit Seoul. Namhyundang is located very conveniently near a lot of touristy places, a few palaces, and shopping areas such as Insa-dong, Bukchon, Samcheong-dong and even Myeongdong. These places are all within walking distance hence a lot of travelling time are saved. Having said that, the house...

This is the first time I have ever tried accomodations outside of a hotel so was initially a bit skeptical when my wife told me where we were staying. This changed immediately when I met the owner, Mr Lee, who personally went out of his way to ensure that we arrived safely at his Hanok. Each interaction and suggestion during...

The guesthouse is like a home and nothing reminds you of a hotel. Owners are super friendly and helpful. The facilities are simple and traditional. Simple room with clean bathroom, washing machine, no unnecessary items such as TV, phone or radio. Our kids loved playing in the courtyard. Breakfast is simple cereal and bread with coffee and juice. If you...

This place was a little tricky to find, but there are directions to follow. Once we met Mr. Lee, the host everything was ok. He needed us to move guesthouses (which he arranged) because of a family party, but then to make up for it he took us on a driving tour of Seoul and to the airport bus stop....

Location is great, within 5-10 minutes walk to Anguk station. Lots of places to eat nearby and within 10 minutes walk to Insadong District. Close to at least 4 Palaces and Shrines. Best of all is the welcoming atmosphere and the care taken by your host and his family. Its like staying at a friends home more than a 'place...

I have to admit that I was sceptical when my friend told me that there's no tv in this traditional hanok guesthouse. (But she's stayed there before) But I decided to go with the plan because I wanted to experience a 'night' life without tv. The trip to the guesthouse from Incheon airport was very convenient. Just by taking 6011...

This is my first time staying in a Hanok style house and we decided in this place as my friend has stayed here last year and highly recommend this place if you want to perhaps interact with locals and experience hanok. Very nice traditional Hanok house in very convenient location. It is within 8-10 minutes walk to metro Lines 1 and 3, and easy to find. Major palaces are within 15-20 minutes walk, as well as Bukchon area. Insadong is just 1 block away. Room was nice and clean, with beautiful calligraphy work, and I enjoyed sleeping on a warm ondol...

Staying in Insadong

Neighbourhood Profile
Insadong
Nestled between Jongno and Samcheongdong, this small neighborhood offers a crash course in various aspects of Korean culture. Rows of shops display traditional Korean goods such as pottery and earthenware, crafts, fans, and more, making it a popular spot for souvenir shopping. The Ssamziegil shopping complex in particular has become a local institution for its unique spiral layout and the many boutique shops inside that sell handmade crafts and goods. This is the perfect neighborhood to sample a range of Korean dishes, with vegetarian Korean temple cuisine restaurants being a popular draw, but street food carts are just as famous. As a top tourist destination, crowds can swell, particularly on weekends, but you can find some rest and respite in one of the private art galleries or grab a cup of Korean tea in a tea house – many of which are located in beautifully renovated traditional Korean homes.
