Close to all tourist places most of them within walking distance, all rooms have a private bathroom and shower, clean place, Very comfortable also for a long stay. It's a small place and at first we were a little disappointed. But at the end it was like a home to us. The staff is very friendly, The owner is very...

This was the most affordable guesthouse i could find in Seoul. And the location was so convenient - near many historical sites, cultural areas, eating places and accessible to 5 subway lines. But the room was too small and messy. The lounge and rooms were not sound-proof, so it can be annoying at times. The heating facility did not work...

September 2012 was my second stay at Guesthouse Korea, I stayed there earlier, during the lunar New Year, and vowed I would never return. Why? ...little heat in private room, ( it was freezing ) no toilet paper, coffee ran out on the second day, no towels, - actually this was just as well since the room I stayed in...

I never expected much from a budget hostel like this but I really was satisfied with it. I thought it was a bad choice based on other reviews but luckily when we stayed, I was satisfied of what I got from the price that I paid. The location was good, it was just across Changeokdung and near Gyeongbokgung Palace so...

I stayed in this guesthouse for 5 days. The cheap single room was quite small but at least the bathroom was ensuite. The location is good because it is near two palaces, Insadong area, Jongmyo shrine, and Jongno 3 station which serves 3 subway lines. There are also numerous convenience stores nearby. My room was at the ground floor and...

The owner was there when we checked in. He gave us a discount since we were staying for a total of 8 nights. We had a triple room ensuite. It was very very small. Just a small aisle between the bunk bed and the single bed, barely had room to walk after we placed our luggages. Rooms weren't sparkling clean...

We arrived late in the airport at about 10.30pm. By time we reached there it was 12am. Upon check-in, the staff name Min look ok. However after asking him a feel questions, he felt irritated. The room was really smaller than expected, look dirty and worse of all, there's no washing basin inside the room. When I went out briefly...

I cant help but think the reviewers who rated this place as terrible have got their locations mixed up. There were no pets and there was no trouble with my bookings or payment. This is a slightly shabby cluttered guesthouse with friendly and helpful owners. It is what I call "boy-clean". The basics are done eg clean toilet, shower etc...

I stayed at this guesthouse for two weeks with my mother. We both had private rooms (with ensuite) for about $37 US a night. When we first arrived at Guesthouse Korea we had the strange sensation of gate-crashing a private home (personal clutter spread about, friends' of the manager hanging out in the living room, etc). However, once we checked...

Staying in Gwanghwamun / Jongno

Neighbourhood Profile
Gwanghwamun / Jongno
If Gwanghwamun is the unofficial living room of Seoul, Jongno is the main hallway connecting some of Seoul’s most important historic sites and neighbourhoods. Being one of Seoul’s oldest neighbourhoods, the area is rich with history and culture in its palaces, shrines, and temples. Stand in the centre of Gwanghwamun Square with Gyeongbokgung Palace and Mt. Bugak in front of you, King Sejong the Great statue behind you, and modern office buildings encircling you—it’s one of the best ways to experience both past and present Seoul in one spot. The main street of Jongno is mostly dotted with restaurants and cafes, but explore deeper within its intricate alleys to pass decades-old restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, and pojangmachas (tents that open at night for quick bites and drinks) and life seems to run just as it did a decade or two ago. Don’t forget to stop at Gwangjang Market, Korea’s oldest traditional market, where it’s just as fun to explore as it is to eat the affordable market dishes that locals have been enjoying since the market first opened in 1905. For a break from urban life, walk along the restored Cheonggyecheon Stream that runs parallel to Jongno for a moment of natural refuge in metropolitan Seoul.
