We stayed in Sutton Hotel during our first trip to Korea in May 2013. The check in was fast and ok, but the room is very very small, even smaller than Japan standard. Then we found that the bed sheet was dirty, with very obvious stain on it..it's very obvious, wonder how the housekeeping staff can accept to put this... More

The Sutton is in a good location for touring around the heart of Seoul. If you arrive late at night, like we did, it may not look like you're in a very good part of town, but take heart, it's fine. It's just that when things close up for the night it looks sketchy in the surrounding area. The hotel... More

To begin with, there are two Sutton Hotels, so don't get yourself mixed up with the locations. However, it is not too far away within these two. The location and its shuttle bus services are convenient. You may catch the shuttle bus from Seoul Station if you are taking the subway from the airport and drops you off right in... More

A nice little hotel in an easy location for the palaces, markets and the stream. The family room was a basic room with a king sized bed and two single beds. Breakfast was nothing special so we walked close by and ate outside.

Make sure you get a promotional price for this hotel. They chop down the price to about half nearing the check-in time (maybe not during high season). Only then is this place worth staying. Great location although rather gloomy at night - everything at a walking distance. Rooms are very very small and bathrooms are hard to move around. Rooms... More

Staying in Gwanghwamun / Jongno

Neighbourhood Profile
Gwanghwamun / Jongno
If Gwanghwamun is the unofficial living room of Seoul, Jongno is the main hallway connecting some of Seoul’s most important historic sites and neighbourhoods. Being one of Seoul’s oldest neighbourhoods, the area is rich with history and culture in its palaces, shrines, and temples. Stand in the centre of Gwanghwamun Square with Gyeongbokgung Palace and Mt. Bugak in front of you, King Sejong the Great statue behind you, and modern office buildings encircling you—it’s one of the best ways to experience both past and present Seoul in one spot. The main street of Jongno is mostly dotted with restaurants and cafes, but explore deeper within its intricate alleys to pass decades-old restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, and pojangmachas (tents that open at night for quick bites and drinks) and life seems to run just as it did a decade or two ago. Don’t forget to stop at Gwangjang Market, Korea’s oldest traditional market, where it’s just as fun to explore as it is to eat the affordable market dishes that locals have been enjoying since the market first opened in 1905. For a break from urban life, walk along the restored Cheonggyecheon Stream that runs parallel to Jongno for a moment of natural refuge in metropolitan Seoul.
