I spent two nights here last week, straight off the plane and totally jetlagged. It's my second time staying with Hongsi - my first was two years ago for around a week. I liked it then and knew it would be an easy and affordable first stop this time around, since I wanted stay in Hongdae. I'm not sure, but...

After a visa adventure in Korea, I've returned to China! Wow! The Hongsi was bright, clean and in a great location for the subway rider, Line 2, Hongik, Exit 3, 100 yards to your left! Despite the fact that I left my T-money in Nanjing, I made a few out of the way, unplanned trips during the visa trip from...

The location is great, within minutes of an AREX station and subway station. The area is great for late night supper. The staff are helpful, the rooms clean and functional. The building is considered new and therefore still quite pristine. No cases of mold that you see in some guesthouses.

Staying in Hongsi Guesthouse for about a month because of my work has been the best choice I made since arriving in Seoul! Being a disabled traveller, the owner was very attentive and was constantly looking out for me. The impromptu meals I had with her and other boarders was really a delightful experience. Hongsi's location in the Hongik University...

Staying in Hongdae

Neighbourhood Profile
Hongdae
Carefree enthusiasm is everywhere in this energetic neighborhood centered on Hongik University, Korea’s top art school. From its assortment of murals to the occasional amateur street performances, creativity and expression make up the wild and beating heart of vibrant Hongdae. At the Free and Hope Market (weekends at the Hongdae Children’s Playground) you'll find one of Seoul’s most popular handmade and creative markets drawing consistent crowds. At Hongdae, there’s never a shortage of things to do and see; food and drink options are nearly endless as are shops and noraebang (karaoke) rooms. Hongdae is also one of Seoul’s top party and club scenes catering to a younger demographic; if a packed club isn’t your scene, you'll also find a range of music venues and bars offering live music in all genres. Although Hongdae has lost much of its unique appeal and undergone rapid commercialization in recent years, be sure to explore Hongdae’s edges in areas such as Sangsu-dong and Yeonnam-dong where Hongdae’s fiercely independent streak still runs freely.

“It doesn't seem very busy, so pick a room based on your budget, not based on how many other people there are. You probably won't have to share!”

“The guesthouse is clean and you don't need to fight to use the toilets unlike other hostels I stayed before where the ratio of boarders per toilet is horrible. Free use of wifi. Chinese and English speaking staff that are helpful with advice and provide really prompt assistance.”
