I stayed here a total of 3 nights, as part of an organized group tour so had no problems with check-in or checkout. One lady in the group came early and complained she was overcharged compared to the quoted price. Walking around Georgetown, I did not see any foreign tourists yet this hotel was full of tourists. It is a...

I went to Cara Lodge outdoor bar/restaurant to celebrate my friend's 50th Birthday. The atmosphere was lovely, quiet (no loud, overpowering music) and the waiter and food was excellent. I am a regular at the Bottle restaurant inside but outside was just as good.

Comfortable hotel for transitional stay in the middle of town. The 3 star was based on furniture/bathroom that needed updating in the room, but the British colonial structure is one of it's kind in Guyana that should be preserved. The staff was friendly, and the food was good as well.

I spent few nights in this hotel. Atmosphere is very nice, it seems to be back few centuries. If you have the room close to the street you may hear some noise during the night, and a lot of noise after 7 am. Rooms are comfortable, restaurant menu not very extended. They didn't have plug adaptor for the room, make...

I stayed at the Cara lodge for a few nights on business. The room was very comfortable and cleaned, and the staff helpful, kind and welcoming. I also appreciated the breakfast every morning with fresh fruits and other choices. Not very impressed by the patisserie though. In general I am very pleased with my stay. The only negative note is that...

The only good thing about this hotel is a lovely old wooden structure. The front desk staff is the most unfriendliest ever, we did feel very uncomfortable asking any questions or for any assistance. The cleaning staff was very nice though and always smile. The breakfast was overpriced and few things which were included we could not get as the...

This is an elegant colonial oasis in the middle of grubby, noisy Georgetown, with dark, glowing wooden floors and plantation shutters. Food and service are both good. Most rooms look inwards to a cool, airy courtyard. My only complaint would be that they are small, with few drawers for storage. Fine for one, not for two.

Very nice, cool, comfortable hotel in the center of Georgetown. Lots of space. Good food served as well and room service! I strongly recommed the Cara Burger. Breakfast is also reasonable however, the breakfast sausages served are franfurters and not links. The staff were happy to provide a DVD player as well! Pretty neat! Worth considering for a return visit

This was a fantastic hotel to stay in. Built in beautiful hardwood, it is a cool oasis in the middle of a humid Georgetown. Enjoy a cold beer in the garden or have a great meal in the hotel restaurant.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The history aficionado will appreciate a stay at Cara Lodge, Guyana. It is one of the oldest and grandest structures in Georgetown, and is the best known and most popular hotel in Guyana. Cara Lodge was built in the 1840s and originally consisted of two houses. It has a long and romantic history and was the home of the first Lord Mayor of Georgetown. Over the years, the property has been visited by many dignitaries including King Edward VII who stayed at the house in 1923. He was of course later to abdicate and marry the American Wallis Simpson. Other dignitaries have included President Jimmy Carter in 1996, HRH Prince Charles in April 2000, HRH Prince Andrew in 2004 and Mick Jagger in 2005. This magnificent home turned hotel offers the tradition and nostalgia of a bygone era, complete with service and comfort of the most luxurious of hotels, all in a most congenial family atmosphere. Our signature dining establishment, the Bottle Restaurant, has been hailed as the best restaurant in the capital. It is open for lunch and dinner everyday, except Sundays. At Cara Lodge, we have worked hard to create a setting that is the perfect marriage of old world charm and contemporary comfort – ideal for the traveller wishing to experience a taste of Guyana’s past, and the business person wishing modern-day amenities. ... more   less
