About Us: LA COLINA Hotel Cottage is an eco-sustainable boutique located in a set of country houses, probably the only one of its kind in the northwest of Bogota. Tucked amid the forest reserve of "Hills of Suba". Five double rooms where space is dominated by a remarkable decoration characterized by works of art, painting and sculpture. Each room has a beautiful view towards gardens or private patios; the stone floor of black slate from the Andeans mountains is beautiful and preserves encrusted animal fossils. The beds have anti-allergic blankets or down comforters and 400 thread count sheets of white cotton providing a soft, quiet rest and intimate welcoming atmosphere. After 2 nights in buzzling Bogotá city we arrived with the best expectations to spend 3 night weekend at a serene tranquil refuge, off the beaten path, amid nature, a bit romantic yet with all modern amenities. Unfortunately none of that applies. In a congested somewhat sordid suburban area this bohemian 5 (tiny) room cottage is apparently not recovering from the Covid-19 impact. We were disturbed by the dampness smell around the house and the humidity in our room. The cold stone floor is more than uncomfortable and our request for heating was met with ignorance. The in house dinner was another disappointment. No wonder we were the only guests there. Other problems included: lacking water pressure in a shower for one (!) as there is no warm water for two. Spotty WiFi. Aircraft noise pollution, flying directly over the neighborhood. Uber drivers don’t find the location. Check the invoice carefully as they up-charge whenever given the opportunity and refuse to provide a detailed bill/invoice. In short, we vehemently disagree with fellow visitors. One star for the staff who try their best under the trying circumstances.…

Dear Mr. Metzger many thanks you for your kind words. After 10 years of operation and thousands of happy guests and no bad reviews (neither in TripAdvisor or the other 25 sites we have presence on the web) we finally had to have our first bad review. It was a matter of time, we can’t be always perfect, neither we intent to. So as owner of La Colina Hotel Cottage it got me wondering about what happened with your experience with us, and since I personally attend you, and I know my staff and the professional service they offer each time. I have one or two things to say to you: 1) Yes, we are located in a suburban area of the city (in the hills of Suba, hence our name "La Colina" The Hill. No surprise there). No, we are not located in a congested and sordid area of the city since this is an upscale and country side of the city. We are literally surrounded by a forest-reserve with high-end neighborhoods. But maybe since you are from Monaco you are accustomed to another “up-scale level”. I apologize for been located in a developing country. 2) Yes, we have are bohemian tiny cottage (5 rooms) hence we are a boutique hotel, which was what you told me you were looking for, upon arrival. All our rooms have a similar size (between 25 to 35 Square meters / 270 to 376 square feet) this is public information that you had available in our website and all the sites we have presence on. So again, it should be no surprise there. 3) What do you mean that we haven’t recover from the impact of Covid-19? are you by any chance criticizing us for been open and operating at a high level after 2 years of a worldwide phenomenon? We are quite proud of the miracle performed by us, in which not only we are alive and well (all of us at the hotel) but also, we didn’t go bankrupt or fired anyone or took on a massive debt. Of course, there are still problems that need to be solved, and it’s going to take years for us and for the entire hotel industry to recover. Take that into consideration. It’s really a miracle that a 5 room hotel survived Covid-19. 4) We are located inside a forest reserve, this is a small boutique hotel that was created in a country cottage, of course there is a natural smell, but what you fail to realize is that is not humidity, is the smell of wood and burned wood that comes from the chimney that is fired-up each night, and also the smell of the sealing of the hotel that is made from a 300-year-old wood. When you live in the middle of a forest you accept the smell of the forest, otherwise you should stay in an urban hotel, that is a block of cement. 5) Your request of a heater was not met with ignorance, since you ask me personally and in front of my eyes Sandra (one of my employees) handle you a portable heater. And yes, our floors are made of natural stone, which were covered by carpets, that we had to take-out after Covid-19 started. It’s a healthcare requirement now days. You told me you were a experienced traveler, you should understand this. 6) You and your wife did not have dinner, you had lunch at 4 pm. Of course the restaurant was empty since is not a normal dinner hour. Also, you personally told me that you loved your Tuna Tartar with Salad followed by Argentinian Stake. But of course, if you like to write something different now, who am I to disagree. But you did say what you said. Also, it had me wondering, is it a sin to have a Thursday afternoon with only 1 couple (you) eating in our restaurant of 8 tables and hotel of 5 rooms? It does happen, most of the time clients have to reserve here since we tend to be full all the time, and sometimes we are empty. So empty that the spirits of the house start to visit and converse, it’s part of the business. But if you read the comments about us most of them talk positively about our cuisine. 7) The pressure of our showers is normal (3.5 gallons per minute). But you are right I can consider incrementing the pressure of the water, and the size of the shower-head so more water can be spread over the guests, the only consideration can be the waste of potable water, and remember that we are an award-wining sustainable hotel that takes very seriously the environment. So, I have to consider this point for more time, since you are the first guest that complains about the pressure of the shower. 8) We have a fiber-optic internet of 400 MB speed connection. I think that for a 5 room-hotel is quite enough. Considering that in Bogota all our internet companies don’t offer more speed than that. We can connect simultaneously 40 equipment’s with relatively good speed. But once we have more speed in the area from our internet company, I will surely increment it. 9) About the planes passing over the neighborhood is a situation out of my control, and the control of the 4 million people that live in the north side of Bogota. There is no hotel in the north or in the south of the city that won’t suffer from this problem. 10) We don’t ever recommend using Uber or Taxis in Bogota. And we make this situation clear to all our guests in the pre-check-in survey that we always send when confirming the reservations. We always recommend using our private drivers that know the location of the hotel. We are not located in the middle of the city; we are located in the suburbs of Bogota. But anyway, the hotel can be located using Waze, Google Maps & Maps searching us as "La Colina Hotel Cottage". You had this information with the confirmation of your reservation. 11) All of our prices are public information in our website, the rooms rate, the plans, the meals, the beverages, the transportation, the liquor, etc. We don’t charge a single cent more or less from our work. You won’t find a single comment like this (except from this one) in our 10 years of operation. Also, all our invoices specified all the items the client asked to be served and are shown in the bill. After I created the bill, I showed it to your wife, and she proceed to pay me with your credit card. So, I don’t understand how you claim that we up-charged you. 12) You mention that you "vehemently disagree with fellow visitors" which means that you are the exception from all the comments we have had over the past 10 years. And this takes me exactly to the point I really wanted to talk about. As a professional psychologist that I am, I think that you take joy and pleasure destroying other people’s business reputation. I took the time to read every single one of the 114 reviews you have posted in TripAdvisor. And I came to the conclusion that you like to destroy the reputation of business that are highly ranked in TripAdvisor. Those business that the majority of the people comment well, you like to comment poorly. This surely gives you satisfaction, surely makes you feel unique. I won’t criticize the way you decide to live and experience your life. I can only say that I personally prefer to live my life in a way that if I don’t have something positive to say it’s better not to say anything at all. Because you can’t ever know the real effort people make to have wonderful business open and running. I hope you and your wife have a wonderful time in the rest of your trip in Colombia. I only have fantastic things to say about this place. Staff, food, rooms are all 5-star and the owner is the kind of person everyone would want as a friend. This was my second stay here and I’ve already booked 3 more. I’ve stayed all around the world but never at place like this, you truly feel like you’re at a second home. I recommend this place to everyone for any reason.

Just back from a four night stay at La Colina. I was traveling with two friends and I am so happy that we were able to experience Bogota while staying at this inn. La Colina is a beautiful place to stay outside the hustle and bustle of the city. I loved coming back to relax by the fire and enjoying a delicious meal after being out all day. The staff are all professional and very kind. The certainly made us feel special. The service you receive is amazing. Frederico arranged everything for us.. Our transfers, our tours with a bilingual guide and even our ride for our covid test to return to the states. Perfect.. and so easy. Thank you La Colina and Thank you Frederico. We can't wait to return.

Truly a local experience in the mountains of Bogota. Even though the owner Frederico was off-site during our visit he was still able to communicate with his guests via WhatsApp. This proved extremely helpful as my son and I were unable to get an Uber back to Bogota from Guatavita and Frederico was able to arrange transportation back to the hotel on zero notice. Our room was one to the suites with private bathroom. Rainfall shower with hot water and high pressure was heavenly. The natural fire place in the den warmed the entire house each night and gave it an extra cozy feel. Kitchen staff was so pleasant and engaging, especially with my son. Will definitely be back next time with the entire family!

Our group of three persons, myself and two teenage kids, stayed quite comfortably in the suite accommodation for our three-day trip to Bogotá. It is uniquely located, undeniably in the city but also a respite from it, with views toward the eastern mountains, trees, flowers, and artwork. We began each day to birdsong and quite wonderful breakfasts, with a fresh fruit course followed by a hot course with egg dishes and arepas. We also had dinner at La Colina our first evening, and enjoyed it so much that when the decision came whether to find a place to eat in La Candelaria after a long day of walking tours or go back to the hotel, we returned for a second dinner. The service was warm and friendly, and Federico made sure we were well taken care of with meal planning and transportation. The kids really loved the food and "Gato" the cat. It is a special place and we hope to visit again!…

Fantastic five-night stay over Christmas! This hotel is charming and full of character. It is located just outside the bustle of the city, but conveniently close enough for daily sightseeing. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming, and the food was amazing. We had breakfast daily and two dinners during our stay, and all were impressive. We had the personal, authentic Colombian experience we had been looking for and would highly recommend to anyone visiting Bogota.

The hotel staff were very helpful and courteous. Their attention to detail was impressive. The room was massive and the bed was very comfortable, My room was cleaned daily and decorated with fresh flowers! The location was a short cab ride to everything I needed and was gracefully arranged by the hosts. I felt completely at home there. Perfect place for couples or someone looking to rest and reset! The food was also very good with Colombian fresh fruit breakfast every morning.
