The Hotel de la Opera is located in La Candelaria, next to the Cristobal Colon Theater, in front of "Palacio San Carlos", currently headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, one block from Bolivar Square and a fifteen minutes walk to the funicular for Monserrate hill. Thanks to its strategic location, our guests can easily visit the most characteristic places of the city, for example the Gold Museum, Botero Museum, Primary Cathedral, etc. Also, many important government buildings are nearby. Walking its roads you will be part of its stories, legends and myths which are preserved in each of its houses. Questions like, why do the houses have doors of two meters? Where did Manuelita Saenz live her idyll with Simon Bolivar? Which is the window through which Simon Bolivar escaped? These are just some examples of the cultural treasures that you will find in La Candelaria.

Great location with beautiful rooms, hotel and awesome people! I would definitely come back to this hotel and also Bogota. Food was good too. Loved this place. Only drawback for us was that the wifi (mobile data was bad too but not in their control) in our room pretty much didn't work but everywhere else in the place it was great. Other thing is the hot water took forever and still wasn't that hot. Didn't really change anything with how much we liked the place but might have if we stayed longer. Would recommend hotel, awesome experience

We had a really good four night stay at the Hotel De La Opera. The staff are all very friendly and keen to help, some speak English well, others not so much, but all try to do their best to make you happy and comfortable. The building itself is delightful, an old colonial building with courtyards and high-ceilinged rooms, ours was at the back of the property and had its own small balcony to watch the world do by from. Our room was comfortable, with air conditioning, mini safe, large wardrobe and mini bar. If you are a light sleeper, you may not enjoy it as much as we did as the plumbing is quite noisy and there is a fair bit of noise from the surrounding streets, but we had double glazing which reduced a lot of it. The bed was large and comfortable, and the room had good Wi-Fi. The housekeeping is of a high standard, bar they missed putting out clean glasses several times. There was also an old stain on one of the chairs. The bathroom was tiny with a sink, toilet and shower (which tended to flood) all in a space slightly larger than the wardrobe. TV channels are all Colombian, bat CNN. The Reception staff are very efficient and we had a very smooth check in and check out, with an accurate bill and an emailed receipt. The breakfast offering is very good, with cereal, fruit, juices, cheese, meats and eggs made to order. We ate in both restaurants in the hotel, the food is good but quite fancy dishes which were tasty, but a little bit much if you want something plain or light. The service was good. The Hotel De La Opera is ideally located, few minutes from the main sights of cultural Bogota, in the historic Candelaria district. There is a spa and small pool but you need to book ahead to access it, so it is not overcrowded. The local area is fine during the day, but we were warned not to walk about it at night. We enjoyed our time in this hotel and would recommend it as a base to see the city.

Great location, with access to several restaurants and shops around quiet rooms and comfortable beds for my taste. The breakfast was very good and the stay overall was good for the price I paid. The staff were helpful too.

Hotel is in a very good location; lots of restaurants, shopping, and historical sites nearby. A good breakfast is included in rate (fresh fruit, eggs cooked to order, breads, cheese, meats, juice, cereals, etc.; yogurts would have been a nice addition), served by wonderful staff. Good wifi, comfortable rooms, with typical amenities. There are two restaurants in the hotel, both very good, and a spa, where I received a very good massage from Luisa. Their staff are very pleasant and helpful, I'm just sorry I didn't get all of their names (the names I did get, Juan, Luis Carlos, Hector, Edgar; but there were so many more, and everyone was great). For our visit, this turned out to be a much needed service. The day before our flight out to Chile, they made arrangements for their driver to drive us to a clinic to get our PCR tests. The next day, while waiting in the lobby after checking out, and Hector printing out all the documents we needed to travel, we received the results that my husband tested positive. So they helped us move to a much larger, more comfortable room, where we stayed for 5 day isolation. There is a good market nearby, which came in handy for me to stock up on bottled water, snacks, wine/beer. Thank goodness for the two good restaurants in the hotel, which we used for our nightly room service. But the most important thing we can say, is how WONDERFUL all the staff were throughout all of this. I was down in reception every day, for one reason or another, and always received courteous, helpful service. One day I needed to exchange money, I didn't want to walk the many blocks to the nearest exchange place, so one of the staff in the lobby offered to go for me. The day before our flight back to the US, the gentlemen in reception made arrangements for a clinic to come to the hotel to take our Antigen tests, for a reasonable fee of $219,000 pesos (about $55 US) for both of us. We decided not to travel to Chile, as Chile requires a 14 day wait from date of 1st positive test, to enter the country, which would push us back too many days on itinerary. Again, much appreciation to the WONDERFUL staff, all of who went over and beyond to accommodate us. We highly recommend this hotel when staying in Bogota.

We had a lovely dinner at Mirador Boveda while staying at the Hotel de la Opera. Eduardo was our server and he was professional and such a pleasure. He made us feel welcome and took care of all our needs. The dining experience was just what we needed ahead of a late night flight. - Thank you!

I just came back from three nights at Hotel de la Opera. We didn't have hot water for 2 nights and management acted like they didn't understand. Towel rack fell on my husbands foot, did not receive any apology and it was not fixed. The night manager finally moved us to a room in the next building that had hot water. Bed was terribly uncomfortable. Main restaurant was not open and all restaurants in the area close at 7 pm. We were not told, so we took a taxi each time to a different neighborhood to find a restaurant. One of the plastic keys we had was lost and upon our checking out the management insisted on charging us for it. The people that manage the front desk are miserable sour faced people. Don't stay in this neighborhood La Candelaria as it has nothing to offer anyone except a day tour. Also, after traveling thru Columbia for several weeks and eating the most delicious fruits and breakfasts - this hotel actually served stale and unripe fruit, and toast that had been lingering there for days. Better to go out for breakfast. They had the cheapest most awful food possible.

Nice and clean hotel. We got 2 rooms at the same price, but our room was twice less than our friends. Good breakfast and presentation, but again not 5*. The mattress was very firm and looks very old, definitely not a 5*. Overall not recommended. If you want a real 5* hotel you can do much better in Bogota.

The Hotel de la Opera is a great base for exploration of La Candelaria, within walking distance of many museums and restaurants. It's an elegant colonial building, beautifully maintained, with rooms arranged around an enclosed atrium. Our room was reasonable in size. The decor was simple rather than elegant with a large wardrobe that served as a closet. Importantly, there was an extra set of doors that nearly completely blocked what otherwise could have been significant street noise. Sleep quality was excellent. For three days of our four day stay, the breakfast was served at the La Scala restaurant on the main floor. We were offered eggs cooked to order--which were delicious--and the rest of the menu was set. Service there was excellent. Unfortunately, a major event during our stay resulted in annoying moving of furniture in the atrium to set up for several special meals. At most hotels, that would occur in a conference center, but at Hotel de la Opera, it occurred right outside our room, and resulted in elimination of a delightful "living room" space on our floor. That also resulted in one of our breakfasts being relocated to the El Mirador restaurant on the fourth floor. Perhaps because of that or perhaps because there were many more guests that morning, the breakfast experience was disappointing as the limited staff were simply overwhelmed. One night, we were looking to eat at the hotel. The La Scala restaurant had an intriguing menu but we were disappointed to find that it was closed. We were offered the El Mirador restaurant but on that night it was not an inviting place. It was empty but for one waiter, and the more attractive dining room with views of the city was dark. The menu was challenging. We did not stay for dinner. For the most part, service from the staff was excellent. However, upon arrival our room safe was inoperable. Our first complaint about that resulted in no action. Our second complaint resulted in an evaluation that led to the replacement of the defective safe--great recovery, but shouldn't that have happened after our first concern was voiced? Were I to return to Bogota, I'd surely consider staying at Hotel de la Opera again--but recognizing that at least during the Covid pandemic it offered a 4-star rather than 5-star experience.

I stayed 2 nights and wished I had more. This will be my first stop next time. The hotel is well maintained and the amenities are great. Thing thing I liked most was the people, particularly Luis and Alison. They were just so helpful and patient. My Spanish wasn’t the greatest but they made it so so much easier and even enjoyable. Their cook Alex (?) made some delicious Colombian food. I don’t usually write review but they were worth it. I hope they maintain this quality of service Yo quedé 2 noches y ojalá tuviera más.
