Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Thanks to everyone at the Austrian Hospice for clean and comfortable beds, a friendly environment, nice food and a beautiful building in the centre of the old town. But mostly thank you for finding my lost phone, getting it back and then posting it to me in the UK. I am so grateful for the trouble you took and the fact that you made it all so easy. It was a surprisingly good end to an amazing trip. Many many thanks Claire

this is a review for the cafe only. we loved this shadowy retreat after a hot day in the streets of Jerusalem. the food met up to Austrian expectations quite well. good bathroom, nice atmosphere. what a gem! the rooftop also tops everything - get a glum of all Jerusalem religions!

I stayed there for three nights. The location in the arabic quarter of the old city is hard to beat and so is the building including the rooms and the nice Viennese Kaffeehaus (closes traditionally early). I had a dorm which was decent, too. You will find clean bathrooms, silent dorms, free water and an excellent breakfast. However, for a bed in a dorm in that context the prices are rather high. Another fairly cumbersome thing to tell is: You can't pay by card, and for paying cash by Shekel they took an unexpectedly expensive and possibly out-of-date exchange rate into Euro. At least in my case, and my slight complaints triggered lack of understanding. So, paying cash by Euro is the most convenient way to go. This restriction is funny albeit many travellers bring Euro, I did

I am lucky enough to have a tour-guide for a friend and he always takes me to places where most people rarely set foot. This time, it was to all the special and hidden places in Jerusalem. One such place was the Austrian hospice in the Muslim quarter of the old city. Most Israelis try to avoid walking around this part of the city, for safety reasons (a huge and painful paradox here, but this is not the place for politics). On the other hand, I try to see as much of my country as possible including the harder to reach places. And I have found that many times they are the best. The entrance from the street is a huge, reddish wooden door, that has seen better days. The kind of door you would never imagine holds such a lovely place behind it. Then, up a flight of stairs where a

You are in the old city of Jerusalem. Everywhere are people and it's loud an hot. And then you reach this wonderful oasis in the middle of the old town. A wonderful terraces and garden- you are a little higher and can watch the people in the streets from above. There is a wonderful Café - you feel like you are in Vienna. You can get Sachertorte and a Melange or even a Gösser beer. Let your soul rest a little there and then start refreshed again. The people were very nice. It's self service in the Café.

Great location if you want to stay in the Old City. Once inside the outer doorway, you're in another world, where Austrian orderliness and European prices are the norm. Coffee in the cafe isn't a bargain, but it's a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle below. Once outside the outer doorway, you're at a fascinating intersection of the three religions. If you're lucky enough to be there on Friday, start your morning (after a fine but not remarkable breakfast) by sitting on the front steps as many, many Muslims stream into the city on their way to prayers. Later that day, from those same steps, watch Christians pass by with large wooden crosses as they follow the stations of the cross, led by local priests. Finally, from those same steps well after sunset, you'll see

Austrian Hospice is an oasis. As soon as one enters the street level doorway and climbs up the stairs to the garden, the bustle of the old city is left behind. I stayed here for a week and loved it. Not really knowing too much about the climate of Jerusalem I was worried about the lack of aircon in the middle of July but was lucky enough to score a corner room and thus had an amazing breeze through the room at night. I'm a hot sleeper but at times, I'd wake up chilled and would have to close the windows. The room was very large, airy, and clean. For the most part, the room was quiet but due to the mosque right outside my window, the middle of Ramadan, the next door neighbour's lonely and constantly barking dog, people going through the streets at night banging drums, and the

Its truly a heaven for quality sitting lunch in Jerusalem..if you are with family. Its quite, clean and peaceful. The prices are reasonable compared to the location and quality. Thoroughly enjoyed the two lunches i had there along with the view from the roof top was mesmerising...I should say the best view of Jerusalem in my view..

A trip with classmates from grad school 3 years back. Clean, peaceful, good service, very helpful front desk. We stayed in dormitories - shared with some other people, not our classmates. Bathrooms were clean - hair dryers provided. They also provided some extra blankets on request - free of charge- 'coz a few of us were very cold. Jerusalem is a bustling city. You need a peaceful and good night sleep. Perfect for that! Breakfast was awesome!!
