This hotel was a mess. Maybe I have unrealistic expectations. We had a room with a loft and a window. The window is open to the outside with lots of birds on the ledge. They don't come in. Not sure why , because there are no screens. The stairs to loft where you sleep are very steep and narrow. Good luck if you need to use the restroom. It is down the narrow fight in the dark. There is minimal room in the bed areas. There is a twin on the main floor with a tiny desk. Minimal room for luggage. Very hot in the loft. I didn't sleep much. Nice surprise in the AM. No hot water!!! Staff is not friendly and wants to be left alone. The staff said I should have gotten up earlier. Next breakfast. Extremely old and terrible food. Not a great way to start the day. If you are a senior this is not a hotel for you. Lots of stairs. When you arrive you have to carry your luggage up a flight of stairs to the lobby. NO ELEVATOR. Then once you get to the lobby your room could be a couple more flights to carry your luggage. Just be aware. The good news is this hotel is nicely located near everything. It's very interesting inside. The top of the hotel is fabulous for looking over the city. If you go with minimal expectations you could possibly be happy here. The hotel is loud, but should be expected, because it is in heavy tourist area.…
Fantastic location within Jerusalem's Old City Walls, just inside the Jaffa Gate, and across the street from the Citadel and Tower of David. We stayed four nights and loved the convenience of walking to all of the major sites within or near Old Jerusalem. The Imperial Hotel has an interesting history, and once hosted Kaiser Wilhelm, II in 1898, when the Jaffa Gate entrance was expanded to permit access for his entourage. Our room was comfortable, with a mini kitchen area, several stone walls and large bathroom. As the plumbing is old, toilet paper must be placed in a waste basket as opposed to being flushed. A large and comfortable lounge is a nice place to bring a drink from off-site, and converse or catch up on world news. Breakfast is plentiful and served in another nice area of the hotel. The entrance is attractive, and a staircase (no elevator) leads the guest up to the 2nd level (and beyond) for service, which is friendly, welcoming, and where a complimentary tea and coffee machine is situated. "Tourist Information" is a two minute walk, where we booked a semi-private tour to Bethlehem, and numerous restaurants are located within the immediate vicinity, both inside the Old Walls and outside, in the Ben Yahuda Street pedestrian mall area. I highly recommend Versava Restaurant across the courtyard from the Imperial, run by a delightful Christian family. The "Night Spectacular" with lights, is shown evenings at the Citadel across the street, but it can be viewed from the Imperial's roof-top terrace. Many of the other historic sites in Jerusalem, such as Temple Mount and Mount of Olives, can also be seen from the rooftop, where my adult son and I spent evenings enjoying the ancient views. We were extremely pleased overall with this historic, budget-friendly hotel, and our inside room was exceptionally quiet. This was a unique, cultural experience.…
Situated just inside the Jaffa gate, and just besides the new Mamilla mall. We parked our rental at the mall garage and it was just a 5 minute walk to the New Imperial. Room and bed were sufficient. It was winter so quite cold until the heater could get going. Bathroom nice and sizable. Big breakfast buffet. No elevator, which we didn't care about, but you might. Wifi was thumbs up, too. You could literally walk outside to restaurants, shops and the Old City. About 15 minute walk across to Temple Mount.
My husband has arthritis in his ankle and was offered a walking stick when we were leaving to go to the airport. What an amazing and kind gesture! I cannot thank the staff enough for that. I think it may have been the owner of the hotel. Also the breakfast was lovely and the staff were always attentive and very kind throughout our week long stay. The hotel is in a fantastic location and we hope it remains in the hands of the present day owners/ renters. We loved Jerusalem and will be back in the future . Thank you so much for your kindness.
Family stayed one night. Fantastic location at entrance to new city. Hotel decor is really interesting. Like a museum. Rooms were nice with well renovated modern bathrooms and very good heating for cold Jerusalem night. Excellent breakfast was included. Great diversity of choices (My wife was particularly impressed). Wished we could have stayed longer and would definitely stay again.
