The worst place ever visited. The sheets were disgusting. Not washed. The room, bathroom and toilet were not cleaned. My bed was broken. Charged over the top. Renovation going on. The electrics were very iffy. The building could be accessed 24/7 by anyone as the outer door was apparently never locked.
When I arrived at Al Salam, the check in dragged for a bit. The owner was nowhere to be found, so I had to wait. When it came to payment, I was charged more than my total (I had booked through a website), which I paid because I had nowhere else to go and was exhausted. The room was okay, it was clean and had wifi. The bathroom wasn't particularly clean but also was not that bad. There were renovations going on, so when I left at night it was dark and full of water everywhere. The location is great, however, and I could do everything I wanted by foot.
On the face of it, its a 1 star hotel and in reality its a 1 star hotel, £27 per night what magic is expected from this hotel. The owner of this hotel is very helpful with local advise and you are greeted with a smile, this hotel is good if your on budget and not too fussed about the luxuries.
No aircon. No hot water. Wi-fi worked about a third of the time, cutting out unpredictably. The floor drain in the bathroom was wrongly sited, leaving the floor permanently 1cm deep in water. Traffic noise from street, where there seemed to be drag racing every evening. On the plus side, it's right by Manger Square.
Something positive first - this hotel is in an excellent location. Things to be wary of - the owner tried to charge VAT which I had already paid through booking.com; the rooms (we were a party of 5 and stayed in a double and a triple) were quite dirty - especially the bathrooms; the sheets did not fit the bed and upon closer inspection, were in fact larger sheets ripped in half to fit the bed; there was no hot water and the instructions on how to obtain hot water did not work due to faulty wiring and poor fuses;
