With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.

This was my fourth visit to Istanbul, where I always choose to stay in Sultanahmet, a district which I love. And when it comes to Sultanahmet, there are several criteria which I take into account to choose a hotel:
1. The price.
2. The existence of a roof terrace

"Our room was #104. There is a blind window which makes it probably be the quietest room of the hotel."
"The rooms that open up to the street may be loud at night due to loud street music. For sensitive sleepers, other side room may be better."
"Rooms facing the street have a more interesting view."
"The call to prayer starts at 6:15 am through to early evening and are made from amplified sources in Mosques and tend to be quite loud."
"Rooms away from street are probably quieter, but it was nice to overlook the life in the street."
