It is the second time I've stayed at a hostel ever. And the Orient has been the best so far. I had an issue at first with a transportation situation but they took care of it. Nice place to hang out. Free breakfast in the morning on the terrace is always something I enjoyed. The all girls room was nice....

I have been coming to the Orient Hostel since 1999, I think, when a Turkish-British friend of mine introduced it to me. There are of course more luxurious places to stay in the city, but none that I can think of that has such helpful, friendly staff and interesting fellow travelers. I bring my students here when I run a...

We stayed in the biggest 30-persons dormintory. It's good, very specious, with lockers, 4 showers in the rooms and 4 toilets. The other rooms looked also nice and cosy. The rooms from the street side might be noisy at night, the hostel is located right in the most touristic street, next to Haga Sofia and all the tourist attractions. Everything...

This hostel was right in the heart of old town of Istanbul and walking distance from all the popular attractions. The ayasophia and blue mosque are literally in your back yard. The rooms are clean are there are lots of bathrooms and showers and a sink in each room which is nice. Even though theres always a party going on...

This hostel is nice, clean, friendly, offers a wonderful breakfast on the roof you get a really nice view of the Bosphorus. Rooms were tidy and cozy and I never had to wait to use the bathrooms/showers. A handy location as well. I don't know if they have all female and all male dorms. If that's important, one may want...

I actually did not stay in the Orient Hostel, but had the good fortune to meet the hostel manager, Mehmet, in a mezze restaurant off Istiklal Cadessi, where I was eating dinner with my boyfriend. Mehmet invited us to try some of his dishes, helped us communicate with the waiters in Turkish, and ordered us his favorite - a cheese...

The Orient Hostel comes highly recommended by myself and three friends from South Africa who travelled with me. I stayed at Orient from 17 to 26 April 2014. The location is exactly where you want to be - in the heart of Sultanahmet, a stone's throw away from all the sites you have to see whilst visiting Istanbul and a...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
