We stayed at the Obelisk for four nights at the beginning of June. It was our first visit to Istanbul and the hotel and staff significantly contributed to our enjoyment of the visit. From the moment of our arrival, the reception staff were welcoming and informative. In fact all the staff; bar, restaurant, porters and cleaners were kind and always...

On the roof of the Obelisk Hotel, and open to the general public, this restaurant offers splendid views of the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara, as well as one heart-stopping view of Sultanahmet Camii (Blue Mosque) - so close you can nearly touch it! Whether the weather dictates that you sit inside or urges you out into the fresh...

NIce roof terrace, good breakfast, only every day the same and not much choice. For a good nightrest a functionning airconditionner is abolutely necessary. My advise to the hotel would be repair all those airconditionners, because in the room of my friends it did also not function . In despite of our request to repair it, it was not done

Room was clean and very predictable (not a bad thing when you travel). Breakfast Buffet was very nice with great view of the Blue Mosque. But the room was fairly expensive! But VERY centrally located and they will pick you up at the airport if you stay three nights or more.

The hotel has a very good location for anybody who came to Istanbul for tourism but not only: about 10-15 minutes to walk to Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia or Topcapi Palace, about 10 minutes to walk to Grand Bazaar, close to the harbour for cruises and not far away from shopping areas like Taksim. The rooms are not luxury but...

This hotel is a really good choice for all the sights of central Istanbul and within easy walking distance of restaurants, shops, Bosphorus. Rooms are fine - bathroom much better than expected with fab shower, though tiny bath. No noise at night - which seems to be a common complaint in Istanbul. Great Turkish bath and therapist in basement -...

Best Western is situated perfectly behind Blue Mosque and near all the major sights to be seen. The food is okay, and the breakfast buffet does not have...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
