Whilst looking for a nice place to stay in Istanbul I searched for somewhere with a good location, plenty of space (ie more comfortable than a simple hotel room) and somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city. I had all those things at Serdari Ekrem. This newly renovated apart-hotel offered an authentic quiet rustic appeal only...

I was so impressed with this hotel. Not only was it affordable, but the staff were very helpful often going the extra mile to accomodate our stay. Our room was stylish, spacious and practical. Rarely do you leave a hotel-stay without having at least one thing to compain about - this was a first for me! scores 100% in my...

We ended up at this tiny boutique hotel entirely by accident and it was the highlight of our trip to Turkey (which included many wonderful experiences and 4,000 km!) Sedar-i Ekrem gave us an opportunity to explore Beyo and it's surrounds, to experience Istanbul like a local (albeit a well heeled one!) and to be embraced by the warmth and...

My husband and I and our two kids stayed at Serdar-i Ekrem 59 on the advice of a friend who lives in Istanbul. It was one of the best hotel experiences we have had during our travels to many cities in Europe. The rooms are beautifully and tastefully renovated but you can still see the original features of this old...

When I entered to the hotel, it felt like home. Real hospitality, special interior, nice neighbourhood. If you are in Istanbul, it makes a difference to wake up in the turistic centre, where most of the hotels are, or in a bohemian district where artists live. And before you cross Galata Bridge, you can sit at the sea in a...

I've just arrived from Istambul. That was an amazing experience. Serdar-ikrem 59 was, nodoubt, the best choice. The staff are very polite, friendly and well-speakers. Anything You need It's only ask them. The rooms are very clean and with a modern and sofisticated decoration. Even in details it was fantastic, like some traditional cakes that are always in hall as...

Just returned from our trip to Istanbul. Weather was really bad, but still had a really nice time. In the beginning you have to look hard for the place, but if you know your way around it is quit well located. It is a steep climb away from the busy Istiklal Caddesi, METRO stop Sishane and Tunel stop (to avoid...

We got a good impression of this hotel before we even arrived. The hotel manager rang before we arrived to know what time we were arriving to ensure she could meet us. We arrived rather late and we were greeted with her smile and warm and friendly hospitality. She was also very helpful and gave us some good tips for...

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighbourhood Profile
Beyoglu
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.

“The ground floor apartment in which we stayed was the most affordable. Inevitably, being at ground level there was some noise from the road, but this was hardly problematic. I assume that the higher floors have a better view, but the ground floor was convenient and well priced.”

“Actually stayed in August, 2013, but am only writing the review now, as I am catching up on my backlog of reviews that I have to do. The system only allows me to put October, 2013 as the earliest I stayed. We had the top room, with spectacular views of the water and the Old City. Really spectacular. Zeyneb, the manager, was also very helpful. The room has a lot of character, the air conditioning worked very well and so did the WiFi. This is not a place for businessmen or older people to stay, however. There is no breakfast, though there are shops right down the street. However, the main issue is that you have to walk up a very big hill to get to the hotel if you take the tram to Tophane or you have to walk up a hill to get to the Sishane metro. The hotel is down a trendy street, but is very quiet. Taxis may have trouble finding it if they don't use their GPS. If you don't mind not getting breakfast and you don't mind the walk up hills, this is a very nice place to spend a few days and I wholeheartedly recommend the top floor with the great views!”
