On the recommendations of friends, my Mom and I stayed here instead of in Sultanhmet and so glad we did. It is on a quiet street but it's easy walking distance to trams, Galata bridge (make sure to try the grilled fish sandwiches!) and shopping near Taksim. Our apartment (#4) was awesome with thoughtful decorative touches - loved the feeling...

Finally, after about 2 and a half months since we returned home from our honeymoon in Turkey, I am finally sitting down to give this beautiful place the review it deserves. Both my husband and I have nothing but fond memories of this beautiful place. We had made arrangements to stay at the ground floor of the apartment and our...

We enjoyed our stay very much at the Serkar-i Ekrem 59. Our apartment on the top floor was wonderful and we loved the view very much. Our special thanks goes to Zeynap for her tips and help throughout our stay. The location was very good, easy excess to several transportations options. Nice neighborhood and a lot of good restaurants and...

There are just a few rooms in this hotel in Istanbul's trendy Galata. We took the top one with a lovely view over the Marmara sea where we could watch the ferries taking people back and forth between the European and Asian sides of the city. The room was very clean and there was a little kitchenette that meant we...

This was the third time that we visited Istanbul and fortunately we discovered that great hotel! Our host, Zeynep, was very helpful and willing to advise us on things we could do in the city. While we have booked the room on the ground floor, when we arrived our room was free upgraded to a bigger one on the third...

This apartment hotel is located on the very trendy Serdar i Ekrem street, away from all the noise, yet just a 5 minute walk away. The room I stayed in (for the second time) was the top floor penthouse suite, which offers you views of the Bosporus, Topkapi Palace, Aya Sophia and Sultan Ahmet mosque. In other words, this place...

We stayed at this hotel because we had been given rave reviews from family - in fact we were convinced to include Istanbul in our itinerary at all because of their great experience here. They had been in the top room with the wonderful views which was not available at the time we wanted so we expected to be slightly...

Serdar-i-Ekrem 59 is a gem, one of quite a few similar places that have sprung up in Galata in the last couple of years. It sticks out for its very personal, very helpful, very friendly service (thanks to Zeynep) and the way this beautiful building was renovated by retaining many of its original elements such as the wooden floors and...

Serdar-i Ekrem is a great place for young professionals, who aren't looking to stay in a hostel but not wanting to break the bank at a fancy hotel. It feels more like an apartment with daily cleaning! There aren't all the amenities of a full service hotel, like room service, wake up call, but wasn't a concern or problem. The...

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. This is small and really good hotel - fantastic location (you don't need to use public transport at all visiting the best places of Istanbul), very friendly staff (we have recieved all helps we requested), really large room with nice interior/design and wooden floor (feeling like you stay on small villa), all...

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighbourhood Profile
Beyoglu
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.

“The ground floor apartment in which we stayed was the most affordable. Inevitably, being at ground level there was some noise from the road, but this was hardly problematic. I assume that the higher floors have a better view, but the ground floor was convenient and well priced.”

“Actually stayed in August, 2013, but am only writing the review now, as I am catching up on my backlog of reviews that I have to do. The system only allows me to put October, 2013 as the earliest I stayed. We had the top room, with spectacular views of the water and the Old City. Really spectacular. Zeyneb, the manager, was also very helpful. The room has a lot of character, the air conditioning worked very well and so did the WiFi. This is not a place for businessmen or older people to stay, however. There is no breakfast, though there are shops right down the street. However, the main issue is that you have to walk up a very big hill to get to the hotel if you take the tram to Tophane or you have to walk up a hill to get to the Sishane metro. The hotel is down a trendy street, but is very quiet. Taxis may have trouble finding it if they don't use their GPS. If you don't mind not getting breakfast and you don't mind the walk up hills, this is a very nice place to spend a few days and I wholeheartedly recommend the top floor with the great views!”
