Stayed here in January 13 with a couple of friends. The hostel is located on the modern side of the city but you can walk to both the old town and Taksim if happy enough to walk for half an hour. The hostel is basic but fine. It's a little set back off some quiet streets so I was glad...

We booked the Sky Room (private, en suite) through Sumo Cat's website several days in advance only to arrive and learn there was some kind of error and the room was occupied by someone else. An employee had tried to email us, but the email went into a Spam folder so we didn't get it until it was too late....

We booked a double room, they sent us a confirmation email, everything was in order. We arrived at the hostel around 6pm and they told us that the room we booked was not available, but they could put us in a 6-beds room where we would be the only guests. There was a girl in the room at the time,...

Cheap, neat, clean hostel in Istanbul. Great! Great location, near Galata tower, walking distance from Taksim. The staff is very helpful and friendly. We stayed in February 2012, it was quite cold (but just like anywhere else in Istanbul in February!), but the staff did all they could to unfreeze our feet!

Great location, close to the city and the Galata area. Although there's a killer walk uphill if you're arriving by tram and lugging a giant suit case, other than that it's just a 5 min walk from the bridge and into the Sultanahmet area. The people there were friendly and best of all, wasn't one of those over crowded /...

We have stayed there for 2 nights at the ground floor 6 bed dormitory at late October. The floor seemed like it haven't been cleaned for ages. The bathroom was also disgusting, when someone takes a shower it got all flooded and the shower curtain was very dirty and moldy. On the bed sheets there was a giant hole. When...

The Sumo Cat hostel is located centrally in the European part of Istanbul on the Galata hill. It is close to Istiklal street (for shopping and going out) and within walking distance of Sultanahmed (the old city center), making it an ideal base for exploring Istanbul. The rooms are nice and clean, and so are the bathrooms. Staff is friendly,...

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighbourhood Profile
Beyoglu
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
