It was very cold in Istanbul where we stayed for three nights during the new year holidays. On the last day of our stay, we had lunch while waiting for a transport to the airport. The staff were very friendly. It was fun to try the waterpipe. Their vegetable kebab was also superb!

We recently spent an enjoyable week at this small budget hotel in the centre of historic Istanbul, our second (!) stay there, and were certainly not disappointed. The location simply cannot be beaten, at the far end of the Hippodrome, opposite the Blue Mosque and the obelisks. We had asked for and had gotten the room on the top floor,...

We travel many times a year and spend many of night in hotels, this is by far the worst ever hotel I've stayed in, as my wife said on the previous review I was bitten all over, in one night alone we counted 52 gnat bites on me, there was a gnat spray in the room but it was empty,...

If your after a place to stay in Istanbul that's near to all the attractions than this is a good place, as it is within walking distance of everything. This really isn't a hotel more of a backpackers hostel and none of the pictures on this site showed the real rooms!! The rooms are located above the busy outdoor cafe...

Optimist is convenient located right across the street/square from the Blue Mosque, and within a five minute walk of the Aya Sofya and underground cisterns, within a 20-25 minute walk of the spice market and Grand Bazaar, and within a five minute walk of the tram line that goes to the market/Bazaar, and Beyoglu/Taksim. Convenience is the number one reason...

Any eatery in the Sultanahmet is suspect for mediocre food and high prices. But my German companion always ribs me for being an optomist so we hit this place on our last day of touring, right after our manditory pilgramage to the Blue Mosque. My friend had a plane to catch, so we sat down and tried to get someones...

If you are looking for a great place to stay and see the main attractions of Sultanamet. You can’t go far wrong with this hotel. Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
