Verena ist ok, depeding what you pay for it. The rooms are clean and modern, but the materials somewhat cheap. Mine was small and I could see some of the Mamara See across roofs and satellite installations. It was 515 where at least its a lot quieter than in the rooms towards the street. The location is connected well to...

When you walk in the lobby to Venera Hotel there is a portrait of Lenin. That's about all you need to know about this hotel that clearly caters to Russians. Most of the TV channels are in Russian and they serve pickled beets at breakfast. The breakfast overall though was pretty good, and the view is OK. It's still a...

Hotel is still a good walk to attractions but a short tram or taxi. Top floor bar is nice. Breakfast was excellent. Hotel rate was good even though we booked at short notice. BUT, the room was very small for two adults with big cases, we could hear through the walls (which was entertaining). Not really geared for English speaking...

Two positive points about this hotel , location and food. The location is perfect to visit most important attractions on foot...walking distance to Hajia Sofia , Blue Mosque , Grand Bazzar and Topkappi...all on a walking distance from hotel within amusing roads full of shops ( clothes and shoes ) , coffe shops and restaurants. Also it is not far...

Our tour company booked this hotel for us in the Laleli district of Istanbul. The rooms are very neat, the beds comfortable, the staff is friendly and helpful, breakfast for us was included and was delicious. There is a cafe located in the lobby called the White Cafe, it has a very distinct internet cafe feel to it. By far,...

We stayed three nights at the Venera, in order to see the city, on our way back from Antalya. The taxi driver from the airport took a long time to find the hotel. I recommend that future guests take the map or hotel phone number along with them. The hotel is situated in the center of the textile wholesalers, and...

The hotel is quite nice. We did appreciate that a room for 3 people actually had three proper beds in it although the mattresses was of very poor quality you could feel every spring, other than that clean and nicly decorated, loved the bathroom! Breakfast rather disappointing though the view was very nice. Omelette station was nice when open. The...

This hotel is located close to historic areas of Istanbul with Sultanahmet and the Grand Bazaar both within easy walking distance. While it's not the height of glamour it's reasonably comfortable, and there are good views from the rooftop bar and restaurant, where a typical Turkish breakfast is also served. I stayed one night with a group en route to...

Staying in Fener & Balat

Neighbourhood Profile
Fener & Balat
This sleepy and rather socially conservative area of Istanbul hosts a small but thriving Jewish community, the patriarchate of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and some of the most beautiful churches and Christian art in the world. Much of what’s most interesting to witness in Fener and Balat sits between the surviving ancient city walls of Constantinople and the serene shores of the Golden Horn. Despite the many splendid sights, historic attractions, stunning vistas, and warm Turkish welcome, the area remains largely unperturbed by the tourist trade that characterizes the atmosphere in nearby Sultanahmet and around the Grand Bazaar. Travelers that like to explore off the beaten track will reap big rewards for making the effort to visit this low-key part of town.
