Nestled between the shady bustling Park Street and the tranquil lakeside Buddhist temple of Gangarama, Residence on Park Street is one of the most lavish boutique hotels in Colombo. Built back in the 19th Century by a wealthy barrister by the name of Sheikh Salehboy Moosajee, this Victorian townhouse once welcomed governors, maharajas, nobility, and the cream of Ceylon’s colonial society. Today, Residence is a unique 8-suite luxury resort in the heart of Sri Lanka’s commercial capital, offering guests the perfect secluded spot from which to explore the bustling city of Colombo.

Detailed Reviews
A friendly greeting was the start of an excellent stay at this beautiful hotel which we believe to have been home to the former 1st Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, exceptional in all areas. Spacious, modern, well equipped rooms are adjacent to an inviting pool area.
Our flight home was at 10pm but Arshen very kindly arranged for us to check out later in the afternoon which was very much appreciated. The air conditioned restaurant delivered excellent food by a professional service, for a very reasonable price.
This was our last stop on our amazing tour of Sri Lanka, arranged by UK based tour providers, Selective Asia and their fantastic driver/guide Chami.

We were only in this hotel for one night and had to leave for the airport at silly o’clock so did not get to enjoy breakfast, however, from the very brief time we were there, I can honestly say it was the best hotel we had been in, in almost a month in the country. We were offered a packed breakfast but declined, we could get food in the lounge at the airport and that was more convenient, but it was the thought that counted.
We did have a light lunch in the restaurant which was perfectly acceptable as was the price, more reasonable than some places we had been.
The staff were, as one came to expect in Sri Lanka, all extremely friendly and highly efficient, particularly Gaveena Prabshi who printed off the boarding passes from emails I sent her. Thanks Gaveena, I hope you get your wish to see the world!
The room we had was excellent with everything one could wish for but with a strange electrical set-up controlled by a master switch. The power was off in the middle of the night, which I put down to yet another power cut until I saw lights on outside. The master switch had not been touched so after some head scratching, I concluded, a la Sherlock Holmes, that it must be to do with the card in the slot overriding thing by the door. I pulled it out and put it back in and, hey presto, we had power. I can only think there had been a power cut and this thing had not tripped back in when power was restored.
It was a bit of a pain, crashing about in the dark at 3 in the morning trying to find the loo and some light but, hey ho, never mind.
We would both be happy to stay here again, perhaps for a bit longer!

After several bad experiences in hotels in Colombo, I sent my request to Uga Residents, even though it was early in the morning, the friendly manager Sithija responded immediately, he offered me a resonable price for the low season. I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome, friendly staff and large rooms with a huge bathroom and separete living room. The staff and the manager did their best to make my stay unforgettable. I felt like at home in that wonderful colonial mansion, everything was within reach, including the pool in front of my room and the restaurant with excelent food. I really enjoyed my stay from the breakfast which was delicious, lunch and dinner with my friends. The food was simply brilliant and unique, my compliments to the chief. The manager Sithija was so kind to keep my things while I was on the trip but also to hand them over to my driver who took it to my new destination. Uga Residence went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for good accommodation, top service and a warm welcome.

I booked this hotel, expecting it to be a little extra special for our last night in Sri Lanka. Unfortunately we were very disappointed, the hotel itself is nice enough, large spacious rooms, although very dark, but the service was lacking in all areas.
We had stayed at 8 hotels/safari camps up to staying at Uga and had found the service and staff excellent at most.
Most of the staff did not come over at all friendly and the whole feel was very impersonal and as if we were just cash in the bank.
On arrival we wanted to make tea in our room, we only had one cup so rang down to reception for another to be brought. The member of staff on the other end didn’t understand what we wanted, but instead of sending someone to our room, it was just ignored. It took us a further two attempts to eventually get another cup many hours later.
We ate at the restaurant that night as we had an early flight the next day, we had booked for 6.30 so we could get an early night. Our food didn’t arrive for an hour and more than half of it was cold, no apology or explanation for the delay. We ate anyway as we had to get to bed, when asked if the meal was ok, I said we were disappointed as most of it was cold. The chef came out and explained that the wrong order had been made for part of the meal, so the rest had been sat waiting whilst the other was prepared. No wonder it was cold!
The area around the hotel is known for having an issue with mosquitoes, we witnessed this first hand as pest control came whilst we were staying to fog the hotel foyer. However there are no mosquito nets over the beds, probably as they were thought to spoil the chic look the hotel was going for. Even after spraying ourselves before going to bed, we both still woke up covered in mosquito bites. Not idea when you have 20 hours of travelling ahead.
To add insult to injury, we had requested breakfast boxes in the morning, as we would be leaving before breakfast was served. I was not at all surprised that these never materialised, so we felt hungry and itchy.
It was such a shame, as our overall experience of Sri Lankan hospitality had been second to none. Definitely would never stay at this or any other hotels in this chain again.

An excellent gem in the middle of the vibrant city of Colombo. The 9 very spacious, tastefully furnished and very clean rooms in an old colonial building are located around a large pool. The hotel also has a nice bar and a restaurant with very good food. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, especially the hotel manager himself, made our short stay unforgettable.

We decided on Sri Lanka for our honeymoon. We flew from New York to Colombo. It was a 24 hour journey and by the end of it, we were quite tired. Uga Residences was the perfect way to spend our first couple of nights in Sri Lanka.
We were greeted with fresh juice, a huge suite (and we mean HUGE), and helpful staff. The rooms were clean, spacious, and had everything you might want for a relaxing, high end experience.
The bartenders, Jai and Shawn (not sure of the spelling), were engaging and informative. While making delicious drinks, they talked to us about everything from the economic situation to our plans in Sri Lanka to the native fruits and herbs used in the cocktails.
The restaurant manager (whose name escapes us) made sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant (Rare) provided some of the best meal included breakfast we've ever had. The executive chef came out to introduce himself and ask for feedback on the meals.
The front desk attendant (whose name also escapes us) was friendly, good natured, and made transfers to the train station incredibly easy.
For us as honeymooners, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Would recommend for anyone trying to do something special for their getaway to Sri Lanka.

The service is the standout at this charming boutique hotel just off the Park St Mews which features several v good restaurants. I stayed all of a day and very quickly knew the names of the front of house. Sitija, Thilottama and Shiraz welcome you and trouble shoot to solve issues as if I had stayed there multiple times. the pool is peaceful and pretty and almost on the doorstep of several rooms. Breakfast was creatively served but the sri lankan breakfast needed a better curry. The only drawback is the rooms are a little dark though huge and well appointed. The decor in the rooms also browns and greys adding to a slightly gloomy feel. Some Barefoot splashes of color would lift the place

If you want to stay in one of chain hotels that are completely sterile and Have destroyed the skyline of Colombo for Christs sake do not stay here. This hotel is a delight to the senses and a joy to the heart. An 19c house that has been converted into a twelve suite hotel by a brilliant designer. The public spaces and outside areas are a feast to the eyes. The suites are large and decorated by a very good designer.
The real icing on the cake is the restaurant the chef is little short of a genius has worked around the world and has put all his experience and knowledge into the menu.
If you do not stay here then spend an evening in gorgeous surroundings.having a Michelin quality meal.
The only other thing I can say is stay here.

This is a perfect way to either start or end your trip to Sri Lanka, in the heart of Columbo but no noise, you are shielded from hustle and bustle of the city outside. The rooms we stayed in 4, and 6 were luxury class, really spacious, well decorated and make you feel special. Highly recommended to a short stay in Columbo.

Great place located in the heart of Colombo. They have a wide variety of multi cultural cuisine that are absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Their service is commendable. The atmosphere is calm and elegant. Even the courtyard is setup in a stunning way that is very attractive. Decent parking space available within premises. They truly deserves a good rating and I highly recommend this place for anyone who's looking forward to a fine dining experience.

Needham Market, United Kingdom216 contributions193 helpful votesHi I’ve booked this hotel for arrival in March just wondering if you could tell me the price of drinks in the bar and the restaurant so I can sort out my spending budget, also any tips on sightseeing in the area.
Many thanks in advance the hotel looks amazing.
Hi, we had beer and wine in the bar and costs were around the same as UK or a bit less. Eating in the bar was also excellent value-little extras brought to us and beautifully prepared tapas style dishes. We only used this hotel for a stopover on the way up to the cultural triangle so apologies but I can't help re sites-Colombo is not renowned for them! Hope you enjoy your stay. Judy
No cause for concern - but take the usual precautions especially if pregnant
We didn't actually albeit there is a pool running through the central area. There are repellant machines in the rooms and bar area.
The answer is D. bring 2 with you. You never know if they fit. Anything else you need to know just ask. Or about India. Enjoy.
