My family chose that hotel because firstly, it is away from the hustle and bustle of Colombo town and yet near enough (a short ride on a 3-wheeler for a fare of 200 rupees per person would get you there, or a hired van for 700 rupees for a group of 7 people would do too). Secondly, it is a classic hotel complete with all the colonial styles, rich history (for a small fee, one gets to visit the ancient hidden tunnel at the hotel grounds!!), service with class, luxury setting and comfort too. Thirdly, it is seated on a cliff (not a high one though) and so, we got a fantastic view of the ocean before us and the waves rocked us to sleep at night (urban-ites like us don't get to hear the waves very much, especially at night). Finally, it was FIFA world cup season then, I got to watch the matches on a huge screen while enjoying my drink and the lively crowd too.

The rooms were of good size and very clean. The breakfast spread was great too. In the evening, The Governor's restaurant is "transformed" into a luxurious venue for buffet dinner, costing 3400 rupees per person. We thoroughly enjoyed the hotel.

My wife And I visit the hotel every year as it's not just a hotel for us but also where we had our beach wedding. Most of the staff even remember us well and give us great care. I checked in again a few days ago and yet again the hotel and its atmosphere take away all the stress of your life away through exceptional service and hospitality. This time we also met Sandamali at the reception who right from check inn to check out made us feel so special. She is not only very professional but extremely helpful and skilled so you never feel disappointed when she's handling you. I give her 7 stars for her hospitality. Thank you. And also a big thank you to all the others as well as you all make the stay worth it. I think I'll have to buy a room in the future 😂 lol. That's how much I love this place. See you in a few days again;)

we found this place on TripAdvisor, but when we arrived we found out, that all the pictures, services and rewiews bellong to the Mount Lavinia hotel next door! Relaxon hotel is right by the railway, has no restaurant, no swimming pool, no room service etc. It is not clean and trains are realy like going through your bedroom. When we try to complain, the owner newer answer. This was the last time we used Agoda to book and pay by credit card. After you come to hotel and find out that this is not what was advertised they say it is canceling reservation! And keep money! Never again...

Arrived in the middle of the night to rooms (colonial) which had leaking roofs and dirt in the bathroom. Finally got switched room after refusing to not pay extra, these rooms were much better. Say on the side of the hotel where reception is. Pool area gets taken up by outside guests so go out early to get a sun lounger. Watch out for the crows.

Stayed there for two night on 19th and 20th May 15. The hotel location is absolutely fantastic on a beach. The view from the balcony is breathtaking. This is a good option for a holiday with family. The hotel is a heritage property. It has an easy access to the beach. The Breakfast is lavish and with good Sri Lankan food variety. The staff is very courteous. The Wifi works very fast at all the corners of the hotel. Its a little far away from Colombo city center which is the only disadvantage of this property. If you want to just relax for few days with you family or with your spouse, this is the best place

We had a colonial feel when checking in Room no 111 of this two century old hotel on the sea shore at the end of 100 Hotel Road by the southern suburbs of Colombo.Four British Governors resided in this palacios mansion with 275 rooms facing the Indian Ocean. Our room was facing the bay with the panoramic view of the fading skyline buildings near Colombo . The exclusive beach of the hotel on the left spreads unto a nearby Railway Station. Beach is neat with huts , shacks and watchtower. Fish and music is a guarantee for any party till late night. Governor ' s restaurant on the third floor is captivating both in food and service. Unfortunately the pool on the rooftop is overexposed and often crowded. With memories of the scenes from " Bridge on the River Kwai " we're spellbound by the romantic location. We were told that hotel keeps alive the name of the dancing girl with whom the First Governor fell in love - Lavinia ! For two days we forgot our home and everything gave memorable moments. We were ending up a week long Srilankan tour. When leaving to airport , true the mind whispered - encore !

I had the best room of the entire tour. The whole hotel which was I believe a former Governers home. It exuded opulence and a time gone by where people were number one priorities. The staff could not do enough for you. After leaving my beautiful room with a balcony overlooking the sea where big soothing waves rolled in and lapped near the lower part of the hotel. It was almost a shame to leave ! The enormous buffet was well worth waiting for, the choice amazing, to suit everybody"s taste. The only complaint which applied to Sri Lanka hotels in general was the exorbitant price of wine. This was locally produced and not good quality. I had one bottle which was more than thirty pound and this was standard pricing. Bottled water was freely available and a lot easier on the pocket.

This hotel located at the sea is very nice. Colonial style furniture and ambiente.
The food, service and staff was nice.
Stayed there two days with my family it was a nice time.
If you want to relax away from the crowded areas of Colombo and your are able to pay a little higher price. The Mount Lavinia is a good adress. The prices are reasonable.

What a wonderful hotel on the outskirts of Colombo. The room we had was huge with a large balcony overlooking the sea. The breakfast terrace was just amazing with a view of the sea, the beach and the trains - and the breakfast buffet was brilliant. Their Sea Cove restaurant situated directly on the beach was a delight and we ate there two of the three nights we were there - you can pick your own fish from their "fish market" and have it cooked how you like - it really was amazing and so reasonably priced. Can't recommend this hotel highly enough. We stayed at the Taj Sumudra on our return and the Mount lavinia is far superior.

I don't know about all the rooms but the ones we have stayed in the beds don't normally face the sea. You do have a balcony and a big window over looking the sea. Best to ask the hotel directly regarding the beds. Fantastic hotel
