During our stay at Taj Samudra Hotel, one of the room girls, called DULASHANI who is working in House keeping department was looking after us extremely well. I stayed at this hotel (Room 374) with Anthony Perry from England who is expecting a hip operation who is unable to walk far. This girl and one of the gentleman who is wearing spectacles with navy blue uniform made sure both of us are ok by cleaning our room and providing assistance we needed. They both were so helpful and so polite always smiling absolutely beautiful staff which I am certain assets for Taj Samudra Hotel.

From the moment we arrived we got to experience the Taj hospitality which is famous & which is the reason I always choose Taj wherever it’s available. It was close to 1 am when we arrived & we were whisked through the beautiful lobby straight up to our room by Duncan from reception who was waiting outside for us & that was a very thoughtful gesture.
We also appreciate the hotel changing our room the next day to one with a balcony which was great for my husband who likes to do some bird watching.
Shashika from housekeeping was on hand to make sure we had everything & her team was very efficient. I want to specially mention Awantha who is the sweetest soul & was always eager to help.
The breakfast was wonderfully sumptuous with its wide variety of delicious dishes & each & every member of the staff at Port of Call made us feel so welcome & pampered each morning. Special mention to Ranarajh, Harsha & Nilanka for their exceptional service.
We had dinner at Crab factory during our stay & I had the best Sri Lankan style crab ever. If you are a seafood fan, then you must go there at least once.
All in all we had a superb stay. If there is anything that Is negative it is that the rooms & bathrooms have an old feel to it. They are not dirty or anything but some interior elements like furniture & fittings could be upgraded.
But all in all we would go back there in a heartbeat.

On arrival we were very impressed by the lobby & surroundings a grand colonial feel.
Check in was smooth & we were apparently upgraded however the room although modern in decor was very small & our view was awful wish we could have been advised to book an ocean front view & I would definitely advise any travellers intending to stop at Taj to do so.
Restaurant choice was good & we ate at their Indian restaurant which was good also for 5 star hotel very good value for money the breakfast however was a little disappointing bit of a canteen feel to it just seemed to lack the 5 star ambiance also choices were a little limited for Western palates lots & lots of curries so if you were a local or Indian guest you seemed to be better catered for.
Staff at breakfast were generally very friendly & tried their best.
This hotel is nearly 35 years old so I believe it is showing signs of age especially if you take a look round pool area also exterior does look quite worn .
The Taj was of course number one back in the day when visiting Colombo but for a little extra money if you want swankier try the newer kid on the block the Shangri La hotel next door we visited there for a drink & a bite to eat & although we didn’t see the rooms the hotel looked a level up.

Plus: good location close to attractions with good sea view, old world charm, good service, upgraded rooms, good restaurants (Jap, Indian, Crab, Thai) Minus: elephant tusk styled door handles is very poor taste in modern times, gym and outer areas need an upgrade, restaurant decor also needs updating.
Service: generally good but could be improved in the restaurant. The Crab Factory is excellent for crab but has a very limited menu besides crab dishes. The wait staff were not sure whether we could get some dishes from tbe restaurant next door.
Left my electric toothbrush. Great that they found it and kept it safe. Excellent would have been if they had informed me by email instead of my calling them a few days later.
Overall good value for money for a very comfortable stay.

We visited Sri lanka last month and our trip started from Taj Samudra. The moment we stepped in the hotel we felt at home all our worries of foreign land vanished . Its so refreshing to talk to reservation desk they gave us all the tips about the country and eatries . Ambiance of the lobby is just grand. Veg Food in the hotel restaurant Navratna was delicious. After travelling through Sri Lanka, Taj sumadra was our final stop.
We thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and its perfectly positioned location. It's close to the Dutch hospital precinct as well as all the well known hotels.
The room was comfortable and well decorated. We enjoyed the food from the sushi restaurant as well as the amazing spread at the buffet restaurant in the evening.
Staff were kind and very helpful particularly the senior chef Nirosh who was always hospitable and sharing good recommendations. We also appreciated Shashika and the house keeping team who always kept our room clean and comfortable. The room service team was lovely especially the soft spoken order taker who ensured we had our breakfasts delivered on time for our early department.
Overall I would recommend this hotel when staying in Colombo, it's a great way to feel the buzz of the city.

We had lunch at Golden Dragon few days ago on a week day we were simply taken on a scrumptious and a mouth-watering journey to China celebrating the Sichuan cuisine. The ambience was nice and welcoming, with a good mixture of gold and an eye pleasing blue. The staff was warm and the moment we entered the hotel and the restaurant, they took precautions as per the government guidelines to avoid any possible transmission of covid19 virus. We started off with two pre-lunch drinks and they had a good selection of beverages. My brother went for a single malt and I was in a cognac mood. Kushan, who served us, was well aware of the beverage menu and also helped us pick appetizers and side dishes for our main meal. He recommended their best dishes and also explained how the dishes we picked would compliment each other. We went for pork ribs and vegetarian bao buns, both were quite filling and enchanting. For the main meal, we picked a special rice noodle they serve with a spicy sauce along with beef fry, a lamb dish and a garlic kankun. Meal was spicy to a level we could handle it and brought out so many different flavours. We really liked the experience and the service was great!

Lunched at Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant. The food was delicious and they had taken all precautions to create a safe environment to help us to relax and enjoy our meal. Special mention of Lasantha who helped us with tips to select our menue and went out of his way to get the dishes done to our satisfaction. Kasun and Kushan too were there ready and waiting to serve us at all times. We enjoyed the food as well as the service very much. Thanks, will definitely visit this restaurant again.

Hi,
This hotel is located very much in the city and very close to shopping areas as well as restaurants. The nearest one is Crescat mall which is less than a km from the hotel.
The next one is the newly opened Colombo City Centre which is also within 10 minutes distance.
The other ones are also nearby.
There are plenty of restaurants in nearby distance.
